The St. Regis Maldives

St. Regis Maldives

Some people have Mecca. Some have the Vatican. But if you’re into beaches, you have the Maldives on your pilgrimage list. Wondering whether it lives up to the hype? Stop right now, do not pass go, and get directly on a plane to the island nation. Here’s a look at the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, which is worthy of saving up those points.

Paradise Island Found

As if the natural lush vegetation, ocean views, and dreamy rooms weren’t enough, you’ll quickly fall in love with The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort for its hospitable service and warm welcome. This isn’t just a honeymoon destination. It’s a hotel that your friends and family will be asking you about for years to come. Here’s a preview of an island in paradise to add to your “must-visit” list.

Overview of The St. Regis Maldives

On a remote island in the Indian Ocean, golf carts (“buggies”), and bicycles are available to transport you from your room to restaurants to white-sand beaches and more (the former are driven by your own butler). While the property doesn’t allow drones (to respect guests’ privacy — including yours), you can take a boat to a sandbank in order to capture memorable photos and videos from a bird’s-eye view.

The Rooms

Book one of 33 on-land or 44 over-water, one-to-two bedroom villas for your stay. Each has at least one pool and one bathtub facing the bluest ocean waves. If you need more spacious rooms — for your entourage, say — or you’re simply looking for the ultimate luxury accommodations, opt for the John Jacob Astor Estate overwater or on the beach at the Caroline Astor Estate.

Start each day at ALBA’s breakfast buffet, which will keep you coming back for more pastries, yogurts, warm dishes, and health bowls, while the à la carte menu shines with creative omelets, fresh juices, coffees, and delicious dishes. You quickly realize this isn’t a typical hotel breakfast when you attempt to count the number of different honeys the place offers. On the property, the restaurant Oriental offers Eastern cuisine, Cargo serves Middle Eastern fare in an outdoor tropical garden, beachfront spot Crust and Craft has casual foods (think burgers, fries, pizza), and the Whale Bar’s highlights are tapas and a signature St. Regis Bloody Mary. (If tomato juice isn’t your thing, wines, craft cocktails, and nonalcoholic beverages are available too.) Last but certainly not least, the most magical dining options at the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort are (in no particular order): a starlit dinner on the beach, a sandbank picnic, and dinner at Decanter, a subterranean five-course dining experience with wine pairings.

The Spa

Like many spas, Iridium Spa has treatments, such as facials, body scrubs, massages, and mani/pedis, on the menu. But what sets this place apart (aside from its scenic location) is its holistic approach to services, such as acupuncture and ayurvedic treatments. There’s also a hydrotherapy pool at the spa, which leads us to…

Pro tip: Bring multiple bathing suits. Between sunbathing at the beach (or at your villa), wading in your personal infinity pool, and snorkeling in the Indian Ocean, there will be plenty of opportunities to sport swimwear and take a dip.

Beyond water sports, there are endless ways to stay active in the exercise center, with or without a personal trainer, on the tennis court, and/or in a group fitness or yoga class.

Q: How do I get St. Regis Maldives?

A: The preferred way to get to The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is via seaplane from Malé. We suggest bringing earplugs and taking a window seat so you can snap pictures of the breathtaking views during your 40-minute flight.

Q: Are kids welcome?

A: Yes! At Vommuli House, there’s a children’s club for ages 4 to 12, with painting, origami, and board games. At Socialite, an open-door recreation center for ages 16+, teens can hangout and play table tennis or video games.

Q: Wha’s the time zone there?

A: While other islands may operate on Malé time, the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort operates on a time zone all its own (really), one hour ahead. This gives travelers an additional hour of sunlight to enjoy during their stays.

Q: Do I need an outlet converter or adapter?

A: No. Of course, you can bring one if you’d like. But if you have U.S. plugs, your electronics will be compatible. What a breeze!
