For the person who has everything (or if you’re the person who has everything), you probably don’t have a $1,200 ice cube maker. Of course if you do, you are clearly #winning in life, and we applaud you. However for the rest of us, the Cirrus Ice Ball maker is the coolest gadget to add to the wish list.
What It Is
The Cirrus Ice Ball maker is a specialized machine that will melt a block of ice into a perfect sphere. Why do you care about the shape of your ice cube and do you really need a $1,200 ice cube maker, you may ask? The answer to that depends on whether you want your drinks to be tops. Ice makes or breaks a cocktail or even a simple glass of whisky. I came across the Cirrus Ice Ball maker when I was at the Four Seasons in Dublin, which is now the InterContinental Hotel. The bartender was walking me through the various sweet and peaty whiskies. After I made my choice, he broke out this $1,200 ice cube maker and shook my world. Granted, back then, the cost was around $600 which I thought already was astronomical. But the large spheres of ice melt slower, and allow you to enjoy the cocktail in the optimal state. I just wanted to sit around all night, watching him making ice. It’s that cool.
How It Works
The Cirrus Ice Ball Maker is the real deal. There are less expensive substitutes on Amazon, but they’re not the same thing. It’s like buying your Hermès Bag in Chinatown, instead of getting the real thing. If you’re into fake bags, to each their own and we respect that. However if you want to buy this once, and have the real experience, then Cirrus is the way to go. In your kit, you have ice molds that you fill up with preferably filtered water. To put this in perspective, if you’re going to have a $1,200 ice cube maker, a $2.49 bottle of Essentia isn’t going to kill you. Keep the molds in your freezer for when those friends drop by for cocktails (because you should always be prepared).
When you’re ready to make your drink, place the square block in your Cirrus. In less than a minute, you will have the perfect sphere for drinks: mocktails, cocktails or sips of Bourbon (where we are fans of Harlem Whiskey). If you want to get really creative, you can freeze flowers, herbs, fruit or anything else – wherever your imagination takes you. The point is you’ll have the perfect ice cube for the perfect cocktail, or just a top of the line whiskey.
The Cost:
The base price of the Cirrus Ice Ball Maker is $1,209.95, which is one of the more peculiar ways to price anything. With the shipping, tax and handling fee, you’re looking at closer to $1,400. The cost of having a guaranteed party trick, whether it’s a party of 1 or 50? Priceless.
