Sustainable Fashion in the City

The new year inspires a lot of us to clean out the closets. After all, we have to make room for the new. But before replenishing your wardrobe with a shopping trip to Europe, consider these resale stores in NYC that’s a treasure trove. Because sustainable fashion is the new cool, and some of these pieces have never even been worn. It’s like the RealReal, but with pieces that just left the runway. Here’s the scoop on some of the best resale shops in NYC.

The Store:  La Boutique Resale

The Location:  Madison Ave

Alright Upper East Siders, looking for the thrill of the hunt? Relatively hidden above a nail spa, this vintage resale shop in NYC is filled with off the runway Jacquemus, rare vintage Jean Paul Gaultier, and Prada.  If you can’t make it to fashion week, you’ll find what you missed and much more.  Sustainable fashion in this case are second hand clothes that were only worn on the runway.  La Boutique is one of the best resale shops in NYC, especially after the holidays.  They carry brand new and never worn pieces that are sure to make any fashion historian drool.  The first floor is where you’ll find the best jewelry and Burberry scarves.  And just when you think that this is enough options to keep you busy for hours, you see the upstairs.  The racks and racks of perfect condition designer pieces are a wonderland for your next night out.

The Store: Michael’s The Consignment Shop for Women

The Location: Madison Ave

If you haven’t heard by now, vintage Chanel is all the rage.  Just take a look at the heritage pieces being pulled out for the red carpet.  When it comes to Chanel, Michael’s is the place to visit to find that one piece from that one collection that just can’t be found anywhere in retail.  For the chance to score rare Chanel alone, it’s one of the best resale shops in NYC.  Just across the road from La Boutique, Micheal’s is much smaller and concentrated on recognizable classics, still of course with their collection of designer jeans.  Micheals is a hotspot for after holiday donations, so whether you’re giving or receiving, it’s a staple.

The Store:  Cobblestones

The Location:  East Village

Are you more of a collector? Historical pieces can be hard to come by in good condition, especially 30s slip dresses.  Cobblestones is one of the best vintage resale shops in NYC.  With so many copy cat styles it is difficult to find a certifiably valuable vintage piece.  So while you’re searching for just the right silk piece, why not pick up a YSL scarf or two.  Sustainable fashion can mean a lot of things, and one of those is appreciating the craftsmanship that goes into vintage pieces.  It’s something harder to find in today’s trenches of fast fashion.

The Store:  What Goes Around Comes Around

The Location: SOHO and the Upper East Side

Just as the store’s name entails, all trends follow a cycle, so what better place to replenish your wardrobe for the new year?   What Goes Around Comes Around houses the best vintage, as vintage is a core of sustainable fashion.  But don’t think this is low-end in anyway; this is maybe the poshest of all the resale shops in NYC.  They even have a section of their website titles “Rare Collectables”.  In the market for a Birkin? Here are some that already have some years of value under their belt, and don’t worry they have some Kellys as well.  This is one of the best high-end designer resale shops in NYC.
