Spring/Summer 2020 Collection

New York Fashion Week 2019: The Scoop
September 4, 2019

Fall-time in New York is not only carved out for seeing your friends again and hitting all your favorite city spots – it also means saying goodbye to your summer Hamptons look, and saying hello to New York Fashion Week look. NYFW crept up on us so fast this year, it’s difficult to keep up with the latest scoop. But rest assured, we have you covered with the tl;dr as always.

The General Scoop
For those of you who are new to the event – welcome. New York Fashion Week is held annually in February and September, displaying all the weird and wonderful new collections to the press, and general public. Up this September are the Spring/Summer 2020 collections. With NYFW being one of the four major fashion weeks around the world, you’re in the right place to see the real deal.

The location has been a quite a controversial subject this year. Although the website lists the location as Spring Studios in Tribeca, the original NYFW location was set to be at the $475 million venue, The Shed in Hudson Yards. Most fashion brands, however, have now chosen not to host their shows in The Shed after it became public knowledge that Stephen Ross, billionaire real estate developer hosted a fundraiser at the venue in support of Donald Trump. As part of the fundraiser, guests could pay $100,000 to have their pictures taken with the President. Unsurprisingly, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Rag & Bone, among others, have all pulled out from displaying their collections at The Shed, and many have also issued public statements against both Stephen Ross and The Shed.

Condensed Time Frame

NYFW is shaving off a few days off its schedule. Starting with this September Fashion Week, the runways and presentations will last five days and five nights, instead of the usual seven days and eight nights format. Teflar’s debut will open the runway on Friday September 6th, and the Marc Jacobs show will close on the night of Wednesday, September 11th. Whether this has something to do with Tom Ford’s new post as CFDA chairman, or the fact that the length of NYFW has been a source of critique for years now, we can definitely still work with five days.

Triple-Feature Monday Show
Not unrelated to the time constraints of the new format, Vaquera, CDLM/Creatures of The Wind, and Section 8 have announced a collaborative show on Monday, September 9 at 9pm. The labels will give their presentations in order, with different music accompanying each collection. Vogue’s Alex Harrington is to be styling CDLM/Creatures of The Wind, and Emma Wyman will be styling Vaquera.
