As a kid, you dropped quarter after quarter into your piggy bank, and you’ve clearly had the saving thing down ever since. But really, what fun is saving if you can’t partake in a little extravagant spending every once in a while? At Galavante, we know that world-class travels are the best kind of splurge. Experiences are the highest-yield investment – especially if the benchmark is the QOL index.

Which is why, summer after summer, we gladly offer up both arm and leg to stay at Lake Como’s Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The big-ticket resort is the vacation equivalent of ordering caviar, then deciding on the Beluga; the hotel lives up to every penny of its asking price. A deluxe room lands you floor-to-ceiling windows and a bathroom paneled in Saint Nicholas marble. Not that you’ll be able to take your eyes off the Riviera delle Azalee view from your private balcony.

Downstairs, you’ll find yourself gazing again at the water as you sit for veal and saffron risotto at La Terrazza Restaurant. Which is just one of the five resto-bars lining the hotel’s piece of lake. Alternately, take a dip in the WaterOnTheWater pool over the Bellagio, or ride the Ruy 1961 Venetian water limo to Gravedone and Piona, Como’s hidden gems. Serve a tennis ball on the court that’s nestled into a park on the hotel’s hilltop, or climb the 12-mile Panoramic Trail and marvel at the million-dollar vista. Orsetto Babbo, Tremezzo’s mascot, will be there to greet you.

T Spa by ESPA offers a whole other layer of extravagance. Lounge on a lake-facing sun bed in the open-air solarium, or gift your feet, body and scalp the Lake Como Relaxing Ritual. The lavender is fresh from neighboring Tremezzino. There are also two spa pools, both infinity and rigged out with enough jacuzzis to hit the spot, no matter where it might be. Water jets are on the pool bottom, blade cascades are at your back and hydro massages are in the circular jacuzzi on the lake. Which just goes to show that when you spend the big bucks here, you’ll get your money’s worth and more. After all, you can’t put a price on priceless.
