You’ve been to Paris more times than you can ever count. You may even flirt with the idea of having a pad one day in the City of Lights. Well, a step in that direction may be a stay at the St. James, a countryside chateau that’s set in the heart of the 16th.
Location and Background
Saint James is located in Paris’ 16th Arrondissement, which is essentially where Paris’s local resident hitters live. You don’t have as many tourists but rather Parisians strolling the cobblestone streets, wide boulevards, and 18th-century buildings. Within this is the St. James, whose location gives you easy access to several local restaurants and parks, which are the draw of the 16th.
However, the Saint James wasn’t always the 5-star hotel it is today. In 1892, the building was home to the Thiers Foundation, which awarded scholarships to bright students and supported them in their studies. It became the Saint James Club in the 1980s and has been a hotel since 1991. Then in 2011, Saint James joined Relais & Châteaux and established itself as a luxury abode.
The Hotel
Saint James is equal parts château and estate. Thanks to designer Laura Gonzalez, the hotel’s interiors are quintessentially Parisian and classically beautiful. The palette of the hotel has neutral colors and intricate designs throughout the 22 rooms, 26 suites, two pavilions, and a villa with four apartments. When you step outside the hotel, you’ll see the Saint James Gardens, a haven that feels more like it belongs in the countryside than in a bustling Parisian city. You’ll also see the complimentary bicycles provided by the hotel in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.
The Wellness Center
The Saint James is the kind of hotel that you stay at when you’re doing Paris at a slower pace. This of course means that you have time for a spa day at the Spa Guerlain for massages, facials, and repair treatments, including the Dédicace Guerlain, which is Saint James’ signature treatment. The wellness area includes a whirlpool, hammam, sauna, and swimming pool with a view of Paris. In the fitness center, private coaches are available to help you get your sweat on.
The Food
Chef Gregory Garimbay, Deputy Chef Maxime Nourrissat, and Pastry Chef Coline Doussin don’t mess around when it comes to food. Bellefeuille Restaurant has been awarded one red and one green Michelin star. The restaurant is charming and romantic, but most importantly, the food is tops. For dinner, you can choose between a 3-course or 4-course menu with items like spider crab, turbot, and of course, caviar. The Saint James also includes The Terrace, designed to resemble a French garden. It’s the perfect place for brunch or a drink. In addition to Bellefeuille and The Terrace, The Library Bar is the place to enjoy a signature cocktail surrounded by leather-bound books and a calming, friendly atmosphere.
