The property: Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant

Who: A list of things Clint Eastwood is known for includes Oscar-winning acting and directing, and being a cultural icon of 80s masculinity, all of which are givens. A list of things that Clint Eastwood is less known for, however, includes him serving two years as mayor of idyllic beachside town Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, buying the Mission Ranch, (thus helping to preserve it’s now 170+ year history), renovating and refurbishing it, and opening up the Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant in the same idyllic town. This makes Clint Eastwood the 17th owner of the historic property – and we’re all about it.

Why: Lodging at Mission Ranch is available in all shapes and forms, from the quaint Bunkhouse Cottage, the 1850s Farmhouse, and the Honeymoon Cottage, to the new Meadowview rooms that come equipped with whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, and private patios. Mission Ranch is as much a romantic getaway as it is a family vacation spot. With 31 bedrooms to choose from, spread across 160 acres, there’s room for everyone (no pun intended).

The Restaurant is simply a picturesque place to dine, located in the middle of a meadow, surrounded by grazing sheep. The Classic American Cuisine menu not only consists of the freshest food, but is also often accompanied by live jazz music. And in-keeping with the Clint Eastwood health-consciousness, Mission Ranch contains in itself a Tennis & Fitness Club with six tennis courts, and USPTA pro Jeff Gillette at your disposal to help improve your backhand.

Best of all, this laid-back locale is affordable: you can stay overnight for as little as $165. It’s a million dollar baby.
