You may think that Jackson Hole’s raison d’etre is skiing, but its high season is actually summer. One look at the Grand Tetons as you land in probably the prettiest airport in the U.S., and there will be absolutely no question why. Another part of Jackson that’s in its prime during the summer? That would be Amangani. This is the review.
Atmosphere
Amangani is the definition of a peaceful retreat. Most hotels fade into the background with a destination as visually stunning as Jackson Hole. With its location on the mountain and the surrounding views, Amangani actually enhances the natural beauty of the destination. During summertime, it is the place to stay in Jackson. You get to immerse into nature while being just a few minutes away by car to the center of Jackson town.
The architecture of Amangani marries the Asian minimalist design of the Aman hotels with the Country Western culture of Wyoming. The hotel is about natural woods and big picture windows that take every opportunity to bring in those views. The point of coming to Amangani is to peace out – whatever that means to you. That could be a hike, horseback ride, rafting excursion, or just a spa day. Amangani’s vibe is conducive to re-charging. You will not need a vacation from your vacation when you come here.
Rooms
Amangani isn’t the newest of the Aman resorts, but rather one of the OGs. The rooms, though, have been maintained fastidiously while keeping with the rustic DNA of Wyoming. Rooms are all generous in size, even if you are at the entry-level. The rooms are perfect for a getaway with your significant other, as there are dressing rooms and large baths. Many of the rooms have terraces too. If you’re traveling with an entourage, Amangani has serviced homes in the surrounding area that have access to all the amenities of the hotel.
Spa + Pool
The showstopper of the hotel, besides the lobby view of the Grand Tetons, is the pool. Summertime is prime time to spend the day on a lounger doing nothing. The only problem you might face is that the location on the mountain and the position of the pool can make it windy. When the wind kicks up, they take down the umbrellas which means there’s a lot of sun.
The spa hits all the right notes in Aman fashion when you have had enough Vitamin D for the day. Once again, the spa is serene and all about giving you a real vacation.
Food + Beverage
When I was at Amangani, the food was tops. There was a new chef who brought Seattle chef vibes with his tattoos. What that also meant was that the food was progressive and creative. The chefs turn over of course but the cuisine consistently reflects Wyoming cuisine. There’s local trout, famed steaks and chops, and Americana-focused cuisine.
Service
This is another area of the Amangani experience where they marry the Aman level of service with the local Jackson hospitality. You are in one of the nicest hotels in the U.S., but yet there is no bit of pretentiousness. Service is actually an aspect at Amangani that consistently gets high marks from me and friends who stay at the hotel. The experience at Amangani runs smoothly from reservation to finish.
