Before there was Cali, and before there was Kalesma, one of the OG luxury hotels in Mykonos was Bill & Coo. And for a while there, Bill & Coo was one of the few games in town. But is it still as good of a spot to rest your head? This is the review of Bill & Coo Suites and Lounge, one of the original luxury hotels in Mykonos.
Atmosphere
There’s one thing that Bill & Coo does exceptionally well, and that’s create a vibe. From the moment you arrive, they channel Georgy Porgy circa 1978, but, like, in the coolest way possible. Music is Bill & Coo’s thing and everything else follows. Bill & Coo was the only real luxury game in town for over a decade, and Suites and Lounge was their first property. Obviously, over 20 years, luxury hotels have evolved immensely. Suites and Lounge was a first adopter and may not be the shiniest new hotel on the market, but it still holds its own.
The pool is the center of the hotel and where to be for at least a day. I sat on a lounger and worked then just put my computer away after a few hours and enjoyed the moment. You’re set up on a hill and overlook Mykonos town and the water, so the view is everything. The crowd is attractive; also, those who aren’t throwing money brashly around at Bill & Coo’s €1,200 and up range – that crowd has found other places to drop their coin. What that leaves you are cool, friendly, and attractive people in a serene and quietly luxurious environment.
Rooms, Spa + Fitness
Rooms
The accommodations at Suites and Lounge are chic, minimalist, and clean in design. The rooms are nice, but not the most luxurious on the isle. Bill & Coo competes with next-level luxury hotels with their new suites in their Coast property, further from the center of town. Those rooms are top-of-the-line. However, the original modern baths, chic design, and music playlists are still part of every room – that makes it quite a vibe.
One note is my favorite room in the hotel is one that doesn’t work when it rains. It’s informally known as the Bachelor Suite and has a terrace with the best view among the hotels of Mykonos. However, it’s built into the natural rocks, so when it rains, you get the little rollie-pollie pill bugs that come out of the walls. Obviously, not optimal but it’s perfectly fine if you get lucky with the weather.
The spa may be small, but it is a Valmont spa, so it has treatments that will go deep. I had a slimming treatment which was much needed with all that I ate and drank on the isle. The fitness center is small and in the basement next to the spa. It’s no great shakes but it does the job to get some exercise in.
Food + Beverage
I would go back to Mykonos just to have dinner at Noema and also at Bill & Coo Suites and Lounge. This isn’t your typical breakfast buffet. Instead, it’s a multi-course made-to-order meal with elevated versions of your Greek grandmother’s breakfast.
First, there’s this traditional fried Greek pastry, which is a cross between a croissant and a donut. There’s a griddled Greek cheese with tomatoes that taste like cherries and oregano. Of course, there is also Greek yogurt in honey, fruit, a little mason jar of a traditional version of granola, then a choice of your main. The poached eggs come out in a big mason jar with brioche-like croutons and herbs. It’s one of the best breakfasts in the world. Even a year later, I can still remember every sublime bite.
There’s a formal restaurant YEVO that honestly is pretty quiet as most people want to be in the Mykonos scene. It’s a formal dining experience and I’m sure it’s quite good if the breakfast and casual lunch by the pool are any indication.
Beef Bar
The benefit of being part of the Bill & Coo portfolio is reservations at the sister hotel Coast at Beef Bar. Besides Noema, this was one of my favorite meals of the entire trip. I can’t believe how much I ate with my friend. We had the melt-in-your-mouth prawns that were right out of the ocean and in basil cream oil with lemon. There were lobster roll bites and crudo, and for our main meal, we had the lobster spaghetti. Because that wasn’t enough food, we also had French fries with an ounce of black truffle shaved and Greek cheese. The meal was just over the top and the terrace was gorgeous. I was disappointed that the Beef Bar NYC menu is nothing like Mykonos as I would eat there every weekend. The Chef and team at Beef Bar knocked it out of the park.
Service
As one of the very first luxury hotels in Mykonos. Bill & Coo has their service down. I loved that they had cars to shuttle you around complimentary to and from town as well as to their sister property. Getting around Mykonos is the biggest pain in the derriere, but Bill & Coo makes it easy. From the spa team, reception, pool and restaurant, everything flows effortlessly.
