When it comes to boutique hotels that bring as much luxury as larger-scale hotels, La Réserve Paris is top of the list. La Réserve is located on the Right Bank. It’s just far enough away from the tourists on the Champs-Élysées but close enough to walk in heels to Monsieur Bleu. This is an insider’s gem: with 26 suites and 14 rooms, it’s more like a home than a hotel. The unfashionable need not apply. The guests are beautiful, effortlessly chic, and impeccably styled – even in ripped jeans and $800 sneakers.
Atmosphere
If you were blindfolded and dropped into La Réserve, you would have absolutely no doubt that you’ve landed in Paris. La Réserve is so French it hurts. You are in for the Parisian experience from the moment you walk into its red lacquered doors into the 19th-century mansion decked out in Belle Époque. Even in a city that knows a thing or two about luxury, at La Réserve you’re rolling deep in jewel-toned velvet, gilded ceilings, and a mini Hall of Mirrors. But for all its lavishness, there’s something chicly cool about La Réserve. If Prince William is Versailles, then this spot is decidedly Harry (in the happier days of their relationship, of course).
Rooms
Where the décor in the main areas is rich and dark, the rooms are filled with light. There are still accents of velvet and luxurious red throughout, but the sheets are crisp white. Baths are classic but clean and still give you the traditional sense of place true to the La Réserve Paris decor. If you’re up for the expense of it, their suites are worth the splurge. An extended stay sipping champagne on a balcony overlooking the Grand Palais should be a thing.
Dining
It never ceases to amaze me that La Réserve is a tiny boîte of a hotel, yet it has a three-star Michelin restaurant. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Le Gabriel as nowadays I’m in it for the scene at places like Laperouse. However, if you’ve never stayed at the hotel before it’s worth it to spend a night in. Even the lunch menu is relatively reasonable for 4 courses at 98 euros or 5 courses at 148 euros. Otherwise what I love about the food at La Réserve is that there’s always something delicious to nosh on. I often work in the library or in the parlor of the hotel or during the summer months, the garden is special. The crowd is always chic albeit more sedate than the Costes for example. However, even when I don’t leave I don’t feel like I’m missing out on Paris.
Spa + Pool
La Réserve Paris is a boutique hotel, and like the common areas, the spa and pool are a jewel box themselves. There are only three spa treatment rooms or so, but they do the trick. I usually do a massage when I arrive to manage the jet lag and plane ride over. The pool is tranquil and where to chill out between shopping sessions and eating your face off.
Service
There’s a reason that the Beckhams make La Réserve their frequent home in Paris. The service is flawlessly French and like the vibe of the hotel, elegantly formal with a touch of modern informality. If you ask for more hangers before you arrive, they’ll be in the room waiting for you. Service runs here exactly as it would in a hotel with far more resources and staff.
