Best Christmas Dinners in NYC

Joelle Mentis, Staff Writer

53 Restaurants NYC

In New York City, which is like a gathering of the United Nations on any given day, you may not celebrate Christmas but it sure is nice to benefit from the holiday festivities. Restaurants bring it with special menus, and for 10 days, the world feels like it’s in vacation mode. Here are the restaurants in NYC to dine out on Christmas.

53

Nothing says Christmas in New York City like Peking Duck. Or in the case of 53, it’s a claypot duck with five spices, or a truffle egg with dashi and foie gras. The point is that whatever you eat at 53 may be Asian in origin, but it will be anything but typical. This is one of the best Christmas dinners in NYC because it isn’t a limited prix fixe menu. Instead you have the full choices for a posh Chinese Christmas dinner.

Address: 53 W 53rd St, New York, NY 10019

Aquavit

Every year, Aquavit hosts one of the best Christmas dinners in NYC because it’s also one of the few buffets. Aquavit’s traditional Scandinavian buffet runs from 12-9pm on Christmas Eve day. On their julbord menu you’ll have 8 types of herring, gravlax, hot smoked salmon, Swedish meatballs, pork belly, spareribs, cured meats. There will also be cheese and potatoes and a dessert bar to round it out for the price of  $225. On Christmas day, they’re serving up a family-style meal at your table with the traditional Scandinavian dishes for $95/per person.

Address: 65 E 55th St, New York, NY 10022

The Baccarat Hotel Grand Salon

The Baccarat Christmas Eve and Day festivities are some of the best Christmas dinners in NYC. They could serve no food at all and you’ll still be in one of the most beautiful settings for the holidays. They will however be serving a three-course prix fixe menu on Christmas Eve from 4-10pm and Christmas Day 12-4pm. On the menu are all the luxurious ingredients served in Baccarat like foie gras, lobster and duck a l’orange. There will also be an option for a Buche de Noel with red currant coulis, vanilla meringue.

Monkey Bar

Anytime of year Monkey Bar is festive, so it’s especially festive to have one of the best Christmas dinners in NYC. In this case, Christmas dinner is Christmas lunch, and runs 12-8 . The meal is a la carte so the world is your oyster as far as ordering whatever your favorites are on the menu. All of the food though is on point, where you can splurge on the steak or a large raw bar to celebrate the holiday. This may not be an Asian restaurant either, but they do have the best crab rangoon in the city.

Address: 60 E 54th St, New York, NY 10022

Majorelle at The Lowell Hotel

Some places are just beautiful, and every time we go to the Lowell we wonder why we don’t drop by more often. That’s why Majorelle at the Lowell makes the list of the best Christmas dinners in NYC, as it’s as close to home as anywhere in the city. The setting is elegant and intimate, and Majorelle is decorated up for the holidays. They are offering a decadent 3 course prix fixe for $235/person, where the best of everything is on the menu. From truffles, scallop, lobster, dover sole, duck and beef tournedos, it’s one of the more elegant Christmas affairs.
