Yeah, baby, New York is officially back. The Grill, in the Seagram Building, brings back New York City’s expense account days of see, be seen, and be seen dining. There are few places as glamorous as The Grill. Oh, and because the Major Food Group guys run the show, the food is darned good too, as are those cold martinis.
The Update
What was once an impossible reservation, is now reasonable within reach. The Grill is now comfortably busy. We think it’s because the offices in the area are back, but back in shifts. The prime days therefore are Tuesday to Thursday, where you get a nice scene all-around. So in lieu of the previous packed bar, you can generally get a seat throughout the evening.
We don’t know if it’s just luck, but the scene is more attractive for both the men and women. And people do dress for the occasion. Though of course you will see the random hedge fund guy with his fleece vest and khakis.
The Food
Well, we can attest that it’s better than ever. The caviar vichyssoise is one of the dark horses to order. We also missed their Crab Louis like crazy and that wild mushroom omelette prepared table side. Like previously, order the prime rib when you confirm your reservation. If you bring a mini-entourage, the porterhouse is a good share for the table. The food is a premium here but they are generous with portions. So to share, really means to share and be fully satisfied after.
