The Fulton
Good for:
Anyone – solo diners, date nights, work lunches and private parties. This is a go-to spot for when you find yourself downtown.
Atmosphere:
With an Instagram-able view of the Brooklyn Bridge, The Fulton, inside and out, is tastefully done. During the summer, the outside patio is packed. For colder months, the dark, intimate interior is a chic place to catch up.
The vibe is corporate downtown and a welcome addition for those who live in the neighborhood. The Fulton has perfected the noise level, where it’s lively enough, but not so loud you can’t have an adult conversation.
Located in a new complex off the Seaport District with its neighbors Malibu Farms, Bar Wayo from the Momofuku team, and Andrew Carmellini’s soon to be opened venture, it’s become sort of a chef’s Hall of Fame.
Why we like it:
Chef Jean-Georges does it again. While his restaurants have always shined in the seafood department, this one specializes in fish and raw bar dishes. While JG knows his way around fine dining, the menu is casual, which we like for everyday.
There’s also a large selection on the menu, and even some solid dishes for non-meat-eaters.
The food is way above average, and it’s good enough that we would travel from the nether regions of the Upper West Side to make it a regular downtown spot.
What to order:
Not enough restaurants in the city can do a proper raw bar, so we rarely pass up the opportunity when it’s this good. We really liked the fish stew, thickened with aioli, which reminded us of Ireland, the sashimi with spicy white ponzu, and if we’re feeling naughty, the fish and crisps.
