Speaking of hotels with high design, JK Place set its own category from the very first Bongiorno in Capri. You know from the moment you walk into one of their abodes that they’re in it for the love of the game. But is the Paris outpost worth a stay?
The Left Bank of Paris is filled with boutique hotels, but to add luxury to that description is few and far between. Enter JK Place Paris, which is part of an independent portfolio of boutique hotels from Italy. Opened in 2019, this was the first hotel by JK outside of their home country of Italy. What they’ve brought to the Left Bank is some Italian hospitality that Paris didn’t know it needed. This is our review.
Atmosphere
When I stay at JK Place Paris, it’s when I have just one or two nights and want things done properly but don’t want to break the bank. Even during Fashion Week, I’ve been able to score a relatively reasonable room for under 1500 euros a night. Since my first visit in 2021, JK has been one of the hotels in Paris that I stay at for myself and not for work.
What I love about the JK Place hotels in general is their exquisite design. That’s the superpower of JK Place; their hotels show you what good taste looks like. The aesthetic isn’t French or Italian – it’s JK. Few hotel groups can pull it off. Kit Kemp’s design at the Firmdale Hotels comes to mind as a comparable match.
At JK, You feel like you’ve entered a friend’s home, albeit a very wealthy friend, who has a fine eye for detail. Every single book, pillow, fabric on the chairs, and color palette throughout the first floor shows you the power of interior design. JK Place Paris is elegant and intimate. Whether it’s during Fashion Week or any time of the year, it’s also a more sophisticated guest in residence. The whole vibe is so unique from any luxury hotel I have stayed at in Paris but maybe that’s because it’s Italian. Whatever the case, they just know what they’re doing at JK Place.
Rooms
I don’t want to go travel-writer cliche but the rooms at JK are gorgeous jewel boxes. I’m always in one of the more entry-level rooms but the details and layouts all clearly speak luxury home. The white sateen linens and sometimes four-poster beds are deeply comfortable and feel expensive. I would say that rooms are almost theatrical as if they were set up to be in some period-era movie.
Marble floors are heated in the luxurious baths with towels that make you feel like you’re in a cloud. The entry-level rooms may be small, but they are mighty. When you get to the suites, that’s when you feel like you’re not a guest, but rather the owner of the mansion.
Dining
I know there’s a Casa Tua in residence. However, this was one aspect of JK Place Paris that I found to be good, but not exceptional. Even before Casa Tua took on world domination, its original Miami restaurant was one of my favorite places. At the JK Place Paris outpost, I wouldn’t say it’s a destination like the other Casa Tua outposts. Casa Tua feels more like a hotel restaurant, albeit a beautifully decorated one, than a scene-y place. I know part of the reason is that the hotel experience of JK Place Paris is intimate. You can’t have a raucous scene.
With that said, as far as the food goes, I actually had dinner there on my second visit and enjoyed it. Not enough to put it on Galavante’s restaurant list but absolutely lovely for a hotel meal. What I don’t miss is the breakfast, which is more than a generic luxury hotel experience. If it’s not included in your rate you’ll easily drop $100/person, but every plate is made with great care. I’ve had everything from the shakshuka to the crêpes, and probably more pastries from the basket than I want to admit. But you’re not a luxury hotel unless you can put together a proper breakfast. JK more than exceeds the bar for beautiful ways to start the day.
Spa + Wellness Center
For a hotel this intimate, it’s hard to believe that they put in a wellness center this comprehensive. The subterranean pool at JK rivals those at hotels I’ve stayed at with 80 rooms, much less 29 which is the size of the Paris hotel. There’s a full workout center that you won’t dread using and a Noble Panacea Spa. Like bringing in Casa Tua for food, which is known internationally, JK curated the best for their wellness center.
Service
The service at JK Place Paris stays true to the overall boutique hotel experience. Service is personalized and doesn’t feel corporate. You feel as if a family owns the hotel although the owners aren’t running the everyday of JK Place Paris. The concierge is particularly knowledgeable about restaurants that insiders, not tourists, would want to go to in Paris. Housekeeping is impeccable throughout. Overall you feel hospitality versus service at JK Place Paris.
