There’s No Place Like American Girl Place New York

Jana Beauchamp, Families Writer

Fans can head back to American Girl Place New York for a flashback to the ’80s. American Girl has debuted Courtney Moore, its first historical character in three years, along with a new immersive in-store experience.

The ’80s-themed doll comes with an experience that recreates Courtney’s bedroom, complete with bright, colorful furniture and her signature hot-pink bunk bed. A revolving closet showcases her bold ’80s fashions, while a photo-op area lets visitors pose in front of a giant boombox and a life-size image of Courtney. There are also two full-size PAC-MAN™ arcade games where visitors can try to beat Courtney’s high score.

After a long absence, fans are excited to be back at American Girl Place. Kids can explore Courtney’s outfits and accessories, while adults can revisit some of the decade’s familiar favorites, including Caboodles and Care Bears.

For those who can’t make it to the store, the dedicated Courtney play site offers free games and activities. These include Courtney’s interactive mall experience, an ’80s-inspired dance challenge tutorial, Courtney wallpapers, and PAC-MAN.

American Girl is also partnering with Girls Who Code, a nonprofit working to close the gender gap in technology and change perceptions around who can become a computer programmer. The partnership ties into Courtney’s story, which encourages girls to be confident and put themselves out there. Through December 31, 2020, American Girl is matching customer donations to Girls Who Code dollar for dollar, up to $50,000, to support the organization’s programs and outreach, including its work with girls from historically underrepresented minority groups.

Courtney’s ’80s experience offers a fun way for parents to revisit some of the trends they remember, while introducing kids to the decade through the world of American Girl.
