Master Chef James Kent + Nami Nori Sitting in a Tree

Nami Nori Temaki

A shout-out to all the restaurants that are taking the COVID challenges to task and innovating and collaborating to up their game. Two of our favorites — Chef James Kent, formerly of NoMad and currently with Crown Shy, and sushi joint Nami Nori — have a limited-engagement temaki roll. And yes, it’s worth braving whatever the weather may bring.  Nami Nori is celebrating their 1st Anniversary, so they’re bringing in their friends in the industry to create special rolls each week this month.

If you haven’t yet been to Nami Nori, then this is just another excuse to try their creative temaki rolls, which are like open faced sushi tacos. They’ve found a way to serve nori perfectly crisp and the fillings are like pieces of artwork. Other favorites on the menu are the lobster tempura, a crab dynamite that has crisp rice balls coating the nori and their signature salmon.  There is always a line for one of the coveted tables, even when the city was empty in August.  It’s that good.
