This year may just be one of the most epic for hotel openings, so we thought we’d revisit the latest and greatest. Venice is cool again, with a slew of new hotels, and the Golden Age of Rome is back. From Africa to New Zealand to Aspen, just when we felt like we’d been everywhere, there’s a new class of hotels to put on the list.
The Hotel: Château de la Commaraine
The Location: Burgundy
Anticipated Opening: Late 2025
Sometimes, the activity leads you to a destination, and the Champagne Hospitality group places you directly in a twelfth-century Château, surrounded by acres of Vineyard for its new Burgundy hotel opening. In other words, you’ll be surrounded by all things wine. As far as activity goes, your job is to guzzle down a few celebratory bottles, while you learn the art of vinification.
The Hotel: One&Only Moonlight Basin
The Location: Montana
Anticipated Opening: Summer 2025
Big Sky Montana is the epitome of open space; it’s where you can inhale the deepest breaths and still feel small relative to the vastness of the landscape. The snow-capped mountains of the winter are turning a hazy summer brown, just in time for your travels. You can hike 40 miles of trails, swim in glass water lakes, ride horseback among the bison, or venture to the forest speakeasy shack for mountain whiskey at One&Only Moonlight Basin.
The Hotel: Nihi Rote
The Location: Indonesia
Anticipated Opening: November 2025
Nihi makes sure of two things regarding their resorts: respect for the natives and making beautiful remote destinations accessible. A two-hour flight from Bali will land you on West Timor’s Rote Island. The team has worked on this project for nearly a decade, and is currently training locals to work at the Nihi Rote resort and preserve their traditions. Twenty-two thatched pool villas will keep your stay intimate, while world-class surfing and spa safaris encourage you to befriend nature.
The Hotel: Rosewood Miyakojima
The Location: Japan
Opened: March 5, 2025
Amidst the sugarcane fields of Miyako Island, 55 ocean-view villas are officially open for booking. Rosewood Miyakojima started taking reservations on March 1. You can choose between a villa or a house designed by renowned Dutch architect Piet Boon. But we’d be just as satisfied if they placed us in a cave on the island, because this island happens to have unlocked the secret to longevity. The people here are some of the longest-living in the world, and with Ryukyu customs integrated into your spa service and swim sessions, with the sea turtles that nest in the Miyako Blue Sea, you might shed a few years of stress, too.
The Hotel: Roki
The Location: Queenstown, New Zealand
Anticipated Opening: Mid 2025
Roki in Queenstown has an ideal balance of countryside-lake life and urban energy. The boutique collection offers 15 suites. But, don’t let that number fool you; you can book a seven-bedroom suite for bigger parties. The interiors are outfitted glamorously by acclaimed interior designer Virginia Fisher, with accents like walk-in showers, fireplaces, and skylights. If you feel like throwing down the big bucks, you can even have your own private rooftop spa. You’ll also be fed well at Roki, with Executive Chef Paul Froggatt bringing his Michelin experience to New Zealand cuisine. New Zealand Scampi, anyone?
The Hotel: Aman Nai Lert Bangkok
The Location: Bangkok
Anticipated Opening: April 2, 2025
Another hotel that marries urban living with the illusion of a private paradise is Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. The hotel is already accepting reservations, and the official opening is in the first week of April. While Bangkok is a fast-paced city, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok sits in the middle of a seven-acre park — so you have city views and accessibility, while having enough separation for solitude. The contemporary suites are some of the largest in Bangkok, starting at 94 sqm. If you think the rooms are spacious, the 1500 sqm spa and wellness center add to the grandeur.
The Hotel: Faena
The Location: New York
Anticipated Opening: May 11, 2025
Faena is going through cultural hotspots. First, Buenos Aires, then Miami, and now Faena graces New York City. Whilst official photos are yet to come, the property overlooks the Highline — so it’s the Mecca of people-watching. The Faena hotels have a dramatic flair that follows themes of opulence and art deco design. And in West Chelsea, home to galleries galore, we expect nothing less from Faena New York.
The Hotel: The Waldorf Astoria
The Location: New York
Anticipated Opening: Spring 2025
So, maybe it’s not exactly new, but Waldorf Astoria is receiving a major facelift—a decade-long one. That said, the Waldorf Astoria deserves a spot on the list. The first skyscraper hotel has a long, star-studded history — but we won’t get into that now. What you need to know is that the number of hotel rooms available has decreased to make for more spacious accommodations. The spa is newly renovated and has 30,000 square feet. James-Beard-Award-winning Chef Michael Anthony will helm the restaurant. And if you’re looking for a more permanent residence, you can live like Rapunzel in a Waldorf Astoria tower. Do not worry; these towers have exits (not that you’ll want to leave).
