Dear Friends,
The dust has settled after the holiday season and today we find ourselves in a new year. With this new year, my mailbox is full of emails for cleanses, low calorie meals, gym memberships, magazine subscriptions and other offers that promise to change my life. A cucumber juice will change my life? Doubtful. Travel on the other hand, has that power.
I get a lot of perspective from travel. When I travel to places like the Atlas Mountains in Morocco where people have almost no material possessions, but yet have a greater inner happiness than someone with a town home on the Upper East Side, I am humbled. We travel to diverse places at Galavante and are lucky to enjoy high-end hotels. But as we’ve said, we know the meaning of life is not 1000+ threadcount sheets.
Today, we feature Sri Lanka through the experiences of our Co-Founders Eva and Sharmila. Completely off-the-grid, a trip to Sri Lanka will have you taking an inventory of what’s important to you. Where life is not about how big your house is, and how much money you make, Sri Lanka is proof that people are good-hearted and kind by nature. Eva traveled to Sri Lanka to meet with an entrepreneur whose business provides infrastructure like clean water and electricity to villagers, and spent a day teaching English to young children. Sharmila went on a separate trip with her husband Nick; they are sophisticated world travelers who are as comfortable at the Four Seasons in the Maldives as they are in rural Sri Lanka interacting with young school children. I am inspired by Eva and Sharmila’s beautiful experiences, and hope to travel to Sri Lanka one day.
A new year brings hope for many to become the people that we aspire to be in our hearts and our minds. We hope to do our part by showing you the world.
All the best,
