The Saint Regis Bloody Mary

Capri Tomatoes

If you’re heading out to brunch, chances are you’ll come across a Bloody Mary or two. This timeless cocktail can be found on almost any cocktail menu around the world. It’s a drink with a bit of a punch to it, so it’s not for everyone. But when you’re in New York City, you simply can’t leave without tasting the Saint Regis Bloody Mary. Whether you order it at brunch, or want to sit at the bar with friends, this signature cocktail at the St. Regis Hotel is one you won’t regret trying.

The Origins of the Saint Regis Bloody Mary

The Saint Regis Bloody Mary originates from New York City in 1934. It was here, at the King Cole Bar in the iconic St. Regis Hotel, that a French bartender stamped his name in the cocktail history books. Fernand Petiot brought the recipe with him from Paris when he moved to America. But it wasn’t until he got behind the bar at the St Regis Hotel that he really perfected the drink. With a dash of Tabasco and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, the Bloody Mary that we’ve come to love was born.

The Bloody Mary isn’t without a bit of controversy though. The clientele of the St. Regis Hotel were slightly offended by the name of the drink. So to keep everyone happy it was renamed the Red Snapper. Every hotel and resort owned by the St. Regis now serves their own version of this punchy cocktail. If you find yourself at one of their hotels, keep your eyes peeled for one of their reimagined classics. We have our eyes on The Bloody Brunello in Florence.
