Rene Redzepi

When you’re named the best restaurant in the world five times, you have a story or two to tell. When you train chefs who go on to win that top distinction, you have yourself a legacy. Famed Noma Chef René Redzepi lands his own series. It’s official; the René Redzepi  TV Show will premiere on Apple TV this month.

Last year Chef René Redzepi sent the food world into a furore with the news of NOMA closing down. But the ending of one chapter paved the path for a new one to begin. René’s love affair with food has now reached the television with a new series on Apple TV, Omnivore.

Overview

Omnivore premieres on July 19th on Apple TV+. The René Redzepi TV show will have eight episodes and tells the stories of the ingredients used in staple diets of people across the globe. Chef René, along with executive producer Matt Goulding, travels around the world exploring the histories of basic ingredients.

The René Redzepi TV show is based on the ingredients coffee, salt, chili, rice, corn, banana, tuna, and pork. Chef René, who is also the narrator of the show, traces the contribution of these ingredients to the tapestry of culture and community of all five continents. He believes that we are what we eat. To prove this he goes to the smallest hamlets of  Spain, Peru, Rwanda, India, Japan, Bali, Colombia, Denmark, Djibouti, France, Mexico, Serbia, South Korea, and Thailand.

Why should the René Redzepi TV show be on your watchlist?

Chef René Redzepi is the most renowned chef in the world. His restaurant NOMA held the reputation for being the best restaurant in the world for a decade. If this is not reason enough, you should know the series is helmed by Matt Goulding who created the series Parts Unknown with the legendary Anthony Bourdain. Now, Matt Goulding and Chef René have come together to create this docuseries that tries to understand the intricate relationship between food, destinations, and culture.

Another reason is the destinations René and Matt visit in the show. The salt flats of Peru, a mountain village in Kerala, and coffee farms in Rwanda are just some of the examples. The René Redzepi TV show features places that are not on the usual traveler’s itinerary. Through their travels, they have discovered such stories about foods that have shaped society as we know it today.
