It’s officially time to cross the border — into Canada. And not just because vaccinated Americans are now allowed. One of the most luxurious lodges, Clayoquot, has reopened. Let’s be clear: There’s glamping, and then there’s Clayoquot, which is one of the premier outdoor experience camps in the world.
Only the Vaccinated Need Apply
It’s nice when you don’t have to worry because everyone else on the plane is already vaccinated. And then it’s nice when the plane you’re taking to the hotel is only big enough for your friend group. Because of course the most expensive campsite in the world would only accessible by one mode of transportation, which happens to be a six passenger seaplane.
As Secluded as It Gets
When you arrive at the ultra exclusive and innaccessible landmark, you only experience more perks of feeling almost completely alone. When you step out into the woods, noise and pollution disappear, apart from the bark of a nearby sea lion on the coast. The most truly adventurous, and spirited explorers will find what they’re after, as they don hiking boots to venture out with experienced guides. But Clayoquot is not for just for tent sleeping regulars. It’s on a whole other level.
Glamping, Next Level
While, yes, there is foraging for mushrooms, there are also heated bathroom floors. Where you’d expect to be crouching into your one sleeper tent, instead, you’re reclining on an old leather sofa- that is inside. But don’t worry. Your extra comfort doesn’t come at the cost of the climate as it might at another luxury resort. Every aspect of the grounds are 100% sustainable, from farming and building to waste management. The late founder, Richard Genovese, dedicated Clayoquot to protecting the pristine land.
So while you’re on the grounds you feel like you can really indulge. That comes to food, as well. All meals are included and are prepared fresh from surrounding ingredients. You’ll eat so well, you’ll never go back to the grocery stores. But unfortunately, you can’t take your leftover with you. There’s a strict no food in tents rule. Unless you’d like to be visited by a black bear.
