If you’ve ever spent time in the Caribbean, you know that it’s all about recharging your batteries. The weather, the food, the people – all of it. And since Silversands opened in Grenada, that part of the world has become even more quintessentially so.
Silversands opened last December and put a down-to-earth spin on luxury. Yes, it still has all those creature comforts you’d want, but there’s a laid-back feeling to them. In other words, it’s the perfect place to chill for a week (despite the warm sun). The forty-three suites and nine residential villas were designed with a minimalist approach AW2’s Reda Amalou and Stéphanie Ledoux, stripping a lot of “clutter” out of your life (and mind) for the time you’re there. The entire layout of the resort directs your attention to the island itself, which is worth your while, because Grenada is truly one of the last under-discovered spots in the Caribbean.
And after a day of exploring, you can rest your body in one of the four treatment rooms, the sauna, the hammam, or the high-tech fitness center (but no one will judge you if you skip that last one). The treatments at Silversands are derived from local rituals and can leave you feeling like you never want to walk again—but in a good way. When you do finally make it on your feet, you can move over to a cabana next to the private pool in the relaxation area. Here’s a hot tip: bring a big book to hide your iPad and binge watch your favorite guilty pleasure. You read enough at home, anyway.
Now it’s food time, which means relaxing in a totally different way: island cocktails. Silversands offers two restaurants, the Grenadian Grill and Asiatique, both of which emphasize a sense of community while eating—a key part of life in Grenada. The Grenadian Grill serves local island dishes in a beachfront atmosphere. Think Tom Cruise in “Cocktail” only classier and with way better food. And while your bartender might not look like Tom Cruise, the drinks will be just as good. If you’re in the mood for something more unique, though, you’ll hit Asiatique, which as the name suggests, serves Asian-inspired cuisine highlighting Grenada’s local herbs and spices.
But when you’ve had more than your share of killer island food (which you will), the party can continue on at Puro, a cigar and rum bar perfect for nightcaps and good conversation. But here’s the best part of life in the Caribbean: there’s no schedule. You’re in charge of what you do and when. No clocks allowed.
So as you finish your rum and head back to your room, rest assured that the next day you can sleep in, eat what you want, drink when you want, and go where you want. Because when you take a break from life at Silversands, the only thing on your agenda is whatever the hell you want it to be.
