Just when retailers are shrinking their storefront footprints, Printemps of Paris, says, “Non, merci.” The iconic Parisian department store is arriving in NYC, and it’s not a small affair. At Printemps, you’ll be able to dine, shop, drink and repeat.
A Parisian Icon
Printemps is a landmark in Paris, like the Eiffel Tower, L’Arc de Triumph and the Champs-Élysées. Printemps first opened in 1865 by Jules and Augustine Jaluzot. Part of the iconic reputation of Printemps owes itself to the historic original building in Paris. Due to its external metal construction – a first of its kind in Paris in 1881 – the building has been listed as a historical monument. The store still operates out of the original building on Boulevard Haussmann.
As one of the oldest department stores still in operation, Printemps invented much of the department store culture we know today. Their sales and marketing strategies were the first to incorporate seasonal sales, menswear stores, and affordable ready-to-wear. And keeping in line with their revolutionary ideals, they have kept themselves relevant by opening the first floor dedicated to circular fashion (vintage and redone pieces) in a department store.
Printemps NYC
The new location of Printemps One Wall Street adheres to the brand’s elite identity. Much like the original building, One World Trade has a historic reputation. The Red Room, one of the few interior landmarks recognized in NYC, will become part of the Printemps experience. The Red Room brings to Printemps an authentic wow-factor with 33-ft ceilings and early-20th-century glamour. Printemps has locations in Paris and 15 more across France, as well as one location in Doha, Qatar. The One Wall Street location will be the first in the US.
The new store plans to house five restaurants, ranging from fast casual to fine dining. The restaurants, which all come brand-new, will be overseen by Saga Hospitality, the group formerly owned by James Kent – the award-winning chef who tragically passed away just this year. The devastating loss of Kent didn’t stop Printemps One Wall Street from continuing on with Saga at the wheel. Now, the restaurants will be overseen by Gregory Gourdet, a native New Yorker, Top Chef finalist and judge, and James-Beard-Award-sweeping restaurateur. Printemps One Wall Street is set to open Spring 2025. You can follow them on Instagram for updates.
