What to Do in Charleston

Looks like a lot of offices will be deferring in-person work appearances this fall, so the window to work from home continues. For many of you, it means working that much harder after barely taking enough time off this summer. Well, this destination is even better in the fall: the weather is prime and, yes, it’s worth traveling to for the grits.

Welcome to Charleston

The weather is prime in Charleston, from the fall through late spring. Charleston is optimal for settling into the slower pace of Southern culture. It’s a perfect weekend getaway, for strolling the charming streets and taking in the grand homes around the town. The city is also a lively, no-pretense food scene, which you can and should eat your way through. This is not the place to go for a cleanse, but it is a destination for letting loose. Locals are friendly, even to those of us from the north.

Where to Stay

The most international standard luxury hotel is still The Charleston Place. There are charming local hotels (which we’re too polite to name) that don’t quite meet the standard of room luxury. If you’re checking into one of these, know that the bathrooms may not be as updated and the rooms as well-appointed as the ones at the Charleston.

The one other option that is newish to the scene is The Spectator Hotel. We haven’t yet stayed here, but it’s a modern boutique hotel option that offers cool amenities like custom bikes for tooling around town.
