Overview

Now that the Belmond Hotel has officially exited Charleston, this charming southern town was in need of a luxury hotel option. Enter The Dewberry, which strikes a fine balance amongst luxury, interior design, and a cool vibe atmosphere.

The Dewberry Hotel is located right next to Marion Square, and in its short tenure, is already a Charleston landmark. Early word on the street is it may even be one of the coolest design hotels in the U.S.  So, that’s why this hotel should be on your radar, and may even be a reason to visit Charleston again.

Modern Southern Hospitality

The Dewberry Hotel reimagines what southern hospitality means in a modern, progressive context. John Dewberry, the real estate developer, brought his vision for the hotel to life, which was to create a modern sensibility with a nod to the classic South. Beautiful touches to the decor, from the furniture to the artwork, provide a welcoming place to stay when exploring Charleston.

Rooms

The artist Becca Barnet custom-designed the 154 guest rooms. Barnet was previously on NBC’s Making It, a show about creativity hosted by Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler. In addition, her interiors are accompanied by a seasonal chef-curated minibar, among other sweet touches of comfort.

Dining

If you know Charleston, you know it’s a town renowned for the food. So The Dewberry has a high bar to meet. For dining, the hotel offers two venues: The Living Room and The Citrus Club. The former is inspired by an actual Charleston living room. It features mid-century furnishings, a library, and a brass bar. This 2018 James Beard Award semi-finalist is a great place for breakfast or an apéritif in the evening.

Go up to the 8th floor terrace to find the The Citrus Club. Cocktails are — you guessed it — citrus-inspired. And if you’re peckish, this place has you covered. The bar offers light bites that guests can enjoy while taking in the views.

Spa and Wellness

The Dewberry Spa takes many of its cues from the lowcountry, a 200-mile-long swath of coastal South Carolina and Georgia. That’s why signature treatments include the native Dewberry plant, as well as other southern antioxidants and botanicals. In addition to various massages, the spa offers a nice variety of hair and body treatments.  Additionally, they have a fitness center. You know, to round out all the shrimp and grits from the weekend.
