Maison Estelle

It’s official: Estelle Manor is out for world domination. Club Estelle has its sights set on expanding to New York City, but not just any part will do. Maison Estelle in NYC has its sights set on the Upper East Side. The original plan was to takeover the townhome that houses the long-time staple, Sistina. There’s been a snag, so sources say that Maison Estelle in NYC is looking for another Upper East Side location. When it does arrive though, it will be official that the Upper East Side will be the cool neighborhood in NYC.

Overview

London’s most talked-about members’ club is crossing the pond, and it’s setting its sights on one of the most storied neighborhoods of the Upper East Side. Maison Estelle, the Mayfair club with an art collection and a guest list most people would kill to get near, has confirmed plans for its first stateside outpost. If the London original is any indication, this is not going to be a quiet arrival.

The Location

The new club originally planned to compete over a historic five-story limestone mansion at 24 East 81st Street, between Madison and Fifth. You may know it as the current home to the Italian restaurant Sistina. The plan was to encompass the entire building with a restaurant, private dining, workspace, and lounge areas across all five stories. A rep of Maison Estelle presented to the community board and outlined that “[their] concept is to effectively unify the building.” With what Maison Estelle did with a Georgian office building in Mayfair, we know it would have been nothing short of spectacular. However, read on, as there are new developments in these original plans of Maison Estelle in NYC.

Who’s Behind It

The New York outpost will be operated by Estelle, the same team behind Celeste, the brand’s Notting Hill satellite club. If membership pricing lands anywhere close to Celeste’s roughly $3,880 a year, this will slot in as a serious but not unreasonable ask for the crowd it’s clearly courting. The foundation of Estelle membership has been old-school discretion with, as the brand puts it, “a bit of a new school spirit.” So Maison Estelle in NYC should be right at home on the Upper East Side.

The Snag

New York being New York, the rollout hasn’t been entirely smooth. Community Board 8 recently voted down the club’s liquor-license proposal in its current form. The main reason was neighbors pushed back hard on plans for a rooftop terrace. The good news for Estelle: the objection is specifically about the roof, not the club itself. So while this location may not have worked out, Maison Estelle can still move forward before the New York State Liquor Authority with a new location.

Estelle Manor, Stateside

There’s also chatter that Maison Estelle’s countryside sister property, Estelle Manor, is eyeing an American expansion of its own. We don’t know what we’re more excited for; Maison Estelle in NYC or the countryside manor. The concept is in the preliminary stages, but if it’s anything near the spirit of the Oxfordshire original, sign us up. Nothing official has been confirmed yet, but stay tuned.

FAQs

Q: Where is Maison Estelle in NYC’s location?

A: Maison Estelle in NYC was planned for 24 East 81st Street, a five-story limestone mansion between Madison and Fifth avenues. The building is currently occupied by the restaurant Sistina. However, due to liquor licensing issues and neighorhood push back, that location fell through. Stay tuned as Maison Estelle looks for new space on the Upper East Side.

Q: Is Maison Estelle in NYC open yet?

A: Not yet. It was originally going to take over the Sistine townhouse. However the club’s liquor-license proposal was recently sent back for revisions after community pushback over a planned rooftop terrace. Maison Estelle in NYC is now looking for new space on the Upper East Side.

Q: How much does membership cost at Maison Estelle in NYC?

A: No official pricing has been announced for the New York club. Chances are it will be much more expensive than the London membership fees, but we’ll need to wait and see.
