The Bar at Quarters

Michaela Atiae, Staff Writer

The restaurant scene in NYC is morphing into a multi-dimensional experience. Long gone are the days of stuffy, uninspired eateries, and The Bar at Quarters is a prime example. Cafe by day and bar at night, the space isn’t confined to a single concept. Did we mention that it also functions as a home goods showroom? If you’re in love with the chair you’re sitting on, you can buy it, and the same goes for the tiles in the bathroom. So while you’re eating, you’ll also be inspired by your surroundings—everything you see is fair game.

The Founders

Nick Ozemba and Felicia Hung are the masterminds behind the space (also the founders of In Common With). The two designed the Tribeca loft to feel like a home furnished with vintage pieces, specialty pantry items (some of which can be found in your dishes), and artwork.  As for the culinary side, Ozemba and Hung collaborated with the Vitagliano sisters, most notably known for the Michelin-starred Musket Room.

The Concept

The daytime cafe serves coffee, tea, and pastries, while Apéro Hour features signature snacks and drinks. In the evening, you can order small plates like Duck Rillettes, Caviar Service, and Dark Chocolate Mousse. The wine list is central to your experience, offering organic and biodynamic labels from women and BIPOC-owned wineries across Europe.

The Bar at Quarters is a good place to take a date (though perhaps not a first date, as picking out dinnerware together might scare them off). Quarters is the type of place that will spark conversation and keep you engaged. You can even attend one of their after-hours events, like live music sessions and dinner parties.

You’re fibbing if you say you don’t check your phone at the table (no judgment: everyone is guilty of this), but at Quarters, the glass you’re drinking your Clementina Spritz out of might have you so mesmerized that you won’t even notice your phone.
