I think I made my best life decision at the age of 8, when I came to New York on vacation with my family. Because it was on that vacation that my father told me that only the most successful people could make it in New York. So, naturally, my ambitious self decided I would be one of the lucky, one day.

September In The City

There’s an old adage that says that an individual’s personality is set by the time he or she reaches the age of seven. Well, for me, I made the best decision of my life at that age, and it was to move to New York City. Decades later, I still have that same awe. But now, I can add a deep appreciation that somehow, I am able to make it happen in a place that I love so much. Each September in New York City reminds me especially, how extraordinary it is to live in New York.

It’s Time For Tennis

First, there’s U.S. Open fever, which I feel like is bigger than ever. If pricing of U.S. Open tickets is any indication, the demand for those coveted seats is at an all-time high. The Waldorf warmed us up though for tennis by turning one of its ballrooms into an exhibition court. This is just one of the stops that the city is pulling out for U.S. Open fever. Bars like Dante in the West Village are serving up their renditions of the Honey Deuce, so tennis revelry extends beyond the court.

The City In Its Prime

After a summer away, yes, you missed a lot in the city. Some of the best restaurants opened, including Graciela, an Argentine import. Other notables are Oriana in Nolita, and even a fun pizza tavern, Keepers, in the West Village. In addition to the reviews of restaurants on Galavante’s NYC section, you know we also love our classics. The first issue of September is always our love letter to New York. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed writing it.

Fall Travel

I know I’ve just waxed poetic about how incredible it is to be in New York in September. However, with travel opportunities, I’ll be heading out mid-month until early October to see the world. There have been places I’ve been saving, like Sardinia, until the time and travel companion were right. I’ve decided that the time is now. Europe is glorious during the September months, as the mass crowds have exited stage left.

I’ve had the fortune to experience hotels early on in my adult life that were lifetime. A lot has changed though, in travel, and hotels have evolved. I’m going to revisit some of the greats this fall, like Splendido, which recently renovated. It’s been a beat since I’ve been in Lake Como as well, so expect reports from the field there too. It will also be nice to share these experiences with a travel plus one and to connect with friends around the world. The other day, I was listening to a song, and the line was, “Some people live their dreams.” I think that’s what this September is going to be about.

Back to School

I know we have the upcoming Labor Day Weekend, but it feels like back to school. When that feeling is in New York City, it’s hard to beat. So come visit if you don’t live here, or welcome home if you do. New York has a way of welcoming everyone, especially this September.
