Mulled Wine

135194808

Thanksgiving is a special time when loved ones gather to express gratitude. It’s a time for families and friends to come together and celebrate their blessings, whether they are like the lively Griswalds or the idyllic Rockwells.

At Galavante, we have a unique tradition where we enjoy a leisurely cocktail hour before the grand dinner. We believe in savoring each moment of the feast and our festivities start with a champagne toast. We then move on to an exciting chess tournament and an engaging puzzle that even skeptics in the family enjoy. Throughout the afternoon, we indulge in delicious seafood dishes with a modern twist, paying homage to the original Thanksgiving celebration. As part of our celebration, we have a recipe for the perfect Mulled Wine that adds to the festive ambiance. Here’s how to make it.

Mulled Wine

Prepare yourself for the feast by enjoying a cup of this delightful spiced wine. It serves as the perfect accompaniment to a hearty and satisfying meal.

Serves 8–10
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 3 minutes

Ingredients

2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
5 star anise
3 black peppercorns
4 whole cloves
1 orange, thinly sliced
2 allspice berries
1/4 cups sugar
a bottle of dry red wine
1/2 cups water
one lemon (thinly sliced)

Procedure

To infuse your mulled wine with a rich blend of warm spices, consider wrapping cinnamon sticks, star anise, peppercorns, cloves, and allspice in a cheesecloth and securing it with a string. In a 5-quart pot, bring a mixture of sugar and water to a boil, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then, add your fragrant spice bag along with your wine and fruit of choice. Allow the mixture to simmer uncovered for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. When ready to serve, keep the mulled wine warm and cozy for your enjoyment.
