Happy Birthday, Mr. Louboutin. Forget Marilyn’s birthday song to President Kennedy. Christian Louboutin’s 20th anniversary of the “China Red” sole is so much hotter. Beloved is a mild way to describe the obsession women have with their $700-plus Louboutin heels. Few things in the world have the power to make you feel so immediately more attractive. To mark the occasion, Louboutin is launching a limited-edition capsule collection of bags and shoes both in boutiques and in collaboration with Neiman Marcus.
Doing the Worldwide Rounds
As you would expect from the world of high fashion, Louboutin is doing the global circuit to launch his anniversary collection. He recently made an appearance at the Beverly Hills Neiman Marcus and was the guest of honor at a party thrown by Bergdorf Goodman in New York. In addition, the Design Museum in London is featuring the first ever retrospective on Louboutin. The master designer has also been hard at work on a book that celebrates his 20 years in business, with a spring release date.
A Celebration in Paris
And, as if that isn’t enough, Louboutin, who says he has always loved music halls, girls, feathers, and performers, will debut four choreographed numbers at the famed Parisian cabaret, Crazy Horse, to celebrate their 60th anniversary. The revue, appropriately titled “Feu” (Fire), premiered in early March and showcases music by Swizz Beatz and David Lynch.
All this adulation and attention to a cobbler may seem like hype to some. But, as his fans know, Louboutin is far more than a creator of shoes. He is an alchemist of fantasy and flirtation that imbues us with our own unique feminine power. So, if the eyes are the window to the soul, then Louboutin soles are surely the way to a woman’s heart.
