A New Hotel in Burgundy
You’ve always wanted to learn about French wine, and now there’ll be a hotel worthy of your five-star standards. On our radar is the newest venture by COMO Hotels, a property that expands the COMO concept beyond remote islands. Their new estate in Burgundy gets you up close and personal with some very fine Puligny-Montrachet wines.
Puligny-Montrachet
For a place that’s known to have some of the best wine, Burgundy has not had many luxury hotels to match. Yes, the landscape is beautiful, the cheeses are exquisite, and of course the wine is a big part of what attracts people on the first place, but the chateaus can be stuffy and musty. In 2023, that’s changing when COMO Hotels and Resorts bring a luxury property to the area that will be new but feel authentic.
Como Hotels and Restorts
Como is run by the family that’s the largest Four Seasons owner in the world. It’s a brand that was started in a partnership between mother Christine Ong and daughter Melissa Ong, and is a combination of their initials. COMO is known for offering personalized properties that reflect the aesthetics of the locations they’re situated in. The goal was to develop elevated luxury. It will be interesting to see what these owners do in Burgundy — their first property in France.
COMO Le Montrachet
COMO Le Montrachet will bring a contemporary feel to the area and still offer access to the Grand Cru vineyards. Located in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet, the hotel is set on a charming village square. Italian designer Paola Navone is expected to bring her visionary touches to the 18th-century estate. The hotel will include 28 rooms including 10 suites, with prices ranging from a very reasonable 200 to 400 Euros a night.
The Chardonnay Wine Bar & Dining
COMO Le Montrachet also features The Chardonnay Wine Bar. It will offer 16 outstanding wines (eight red and eight white), selected from the region by sommeliers. These will be rotated every month so that visitors are exposed to the eclectic variety of the vineyards. Guests can purchase bottles of wine from the cellar. There are two dining rooms with refined cuisine by chef Romaine Versino. He’s well acquainted with the tradition of Burgundy gastronomy and will showcase this in the dishes he presents. In the spring and summer, the hotel is slated to open its terrace for meals. Likewise, you can enjoy your wine buzz in the large decorated garden.
If you love what the French can do with grapes and are eager to see what this region has to offer, COMO Le Montrachet is a luxury experience that’s unlikely to disappoint.
