Don’t care for the taste or texture of oysters? These are pretty cool, promise. And they’re made from real shells. Grit & Grace Studio, out of Charleston, South Carolina, repurposes oyster shells into beautiful hand-painted objects — everything from dishes to earrings to salt and pepper shakers. You gotta see these.
Overview
The most beautiful part of the oyster definitely doesn’t have to be the pearl. Because, in fact, we’d argue that pearls look the best when displayed in their Grit & Grace ocean painted shell jewelry dish. It really comes full circle. The complicated creatures have beautiful irregular shapes. They make for stunning center pieces and decorative additions to any setting.
To create these unique designs, Grit & Grace artisans use a method called decoupage. Though oyster shells are beautiful straight out of the ocean, the G&G team glams them up with hand-painted designs and gilded edges. The company has partnered with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ oyster restoration and enhancement program to help preserve the local oyster population.
While we love the pieces on their own, the sustainable mission of the company makes purchasing them all the more enticing. Sustainability isn’t just all the rage these days; it’s a necessary part of any brand’s ethos.
