When the forecast at home predicts unseasonably cold weather and lots of remote learning, then transport your family to the shores of an 18,000-acre nature reserve on the island of Providenciales at Amanyara Turks & Caicos for a learning experience like no other.
During Covid-19, Amanyara has rolled out Science Explorers and Environmental Keepers (SEEK), the resort’s new program in partnership with the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Miami. This new and innovative educational program for kids promotes fun while learning about the environment and conservation on family holidays. In its first such collaboration with a resort, Frost Science will launch eight camps at Amanyara in 2021, with a flexible daily drop-in atmosphere and programming targeted to children (ages 5–10) as well as preteens and teens (ages 11–14). Parents will wish they could sign up as well.
SEEK camps will feature hands-on science activities and “out in the environment” guided experiences led by Frost Science educators. There will be three themes: Coastal Conservation, with activities like kayaking or hiking through the mangroves, building a coastline model, completing a mangrove nursery scavenger hunt, and conducting a microscopic look at sand and plants; Reef Rescue with snorkeling or kayaking, building a coral reef, and developing a unique “Save the Reef” campaign that celebrates biodiversity; and Sun, Moon and Stars, with activities that include nighttime stargazing, constellation mapping, spectroscopy, and moon model creation. It’s a very cool and exciting program in collaboration with an amazing museum, and with the museum’s educators onsite to run these camps, it definitely goes above and beyond your usual kids’ club-type resort programs.
“We are delighted to be working with Frost Science for our new youth programming,” said Ian White, general manager, Amanyara. “SEEK will elevate our already strong family experiences at Amanyara, which include soccer and tennis camps, water sports, outdoor wellness activities and more. With the new SEEK camps, we hope to cultivate enthusiasm for the environment and passion for conservation amongst the next generation as they learn to take care of our planet.”
Kids will love that they get keepsakes from their enrichment experiences, like a tote bag and reusable water bottle. Parents will love that they also receive complimentary tickets to visit Frost Science in Miami. Families will love that Amanyara also offers more personalized experiences, such as a private camp experience at the resort throughout the year with advance reservations.
Ideal for families, Amanyara’s newly renovated, standalone pavilions and multi-bedroom villas feature large pools and personalized services as well as an abundance of space and privacy.
