Rosewood Arrives Venice

Michaela Atiae, Staff Writer

Rumors have circled for a while now that Venice is sinking, but that doesn’t mean a luxurious stay shouldn’t be possible. If anything, the ticking time clock makes Rosewood Hotel Bauer a place to visit all the more. It’s located directly on the Grand Canal and is a reimagining of the once-famous Hotel Bauer, quintessential to Venice’s reputation for elegance in the nineteenth century.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is giving the beloved hotel a facelift (although it has held up for nearly a century and a half, a little sprucing up is in order). The project is being overseen by architect Alberto Torsello and the established interior design group, BAR Studio. They’ve worked on reconstruction since November 2022, with the anticipated opening date now nearing. In other words, the moment when you are sitting on a garden rooftop overlooking the Grand Canal, remembering why life is good — that’s any day now.

Location

As the name suggests, the neighborhood that will house Rosewood Hotel Bauer is full of the city’s history. The historic San Marco district gives you access to famous landmarks and insight into the dreamy Venetian lifestyle. The lagoon surrounding the still-thriving city shapes its structure of 100+ canals. (If you thought New Yorkers were hardcore, Venetians may have New York beat, by living in a city that continues to slowly flood). At Rosewood Hotel Bauer, The Grand Canal will be right outside your window. Monuments like Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge are also close by, for a real feel of the beauty in this resilient community. And it’s prime social media content, of course.

Accommodation

The hotel offers more than 110 rooms, most of them suites. Those suites will include signature and presidential options. However, the charming backbones will remain; it wouldn’t be a Rosewood takeover otherwise. You can expect the original facade and the grand staircase to make it past reconstruction. The hotel will also feature sustainable practices in its design, with eyes on three sustainability certificates: the Green Pass, Klima Haus, and LEED Gold.

Food & Beverage

We don’t know all the details about the culinary offerings just yet. What we do know is that there will be a bistro-style restaurant and bar, a fine dining restaurant, and a rooftop terrace. The rooftop will also be an event space, with Venice’s cityscape as your background.

Wellness

Also promised is a luxurious wellness facility. There will be an outdoor pool and a bar (more to come soon).
