Ram’s Head Inn on Shelter Island

Ram's Head Inn

We know that the Hamptons can be fancy, and sometimes, the crowd is a bit much. But let’s go back in time when it wasn’t about the impossible reservation at Le Bilboquet. You know, like back when the Hamptons was about kicking back, catching up with the family, and appreciating the rustic calm. Looks like that’s still possible today with Ram’s Head bringing the authenticity back to the Hamptons. This is where to stay on Shelter Island.

Summer getaway

Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC? The Ram’s Head Inn in the Hamptons is a charming, historic hotel. The inn is where to stay on Shelter Island, for a quintessential summer getaway that brings you back to the simple life of the Hamptons. Situated on the waterfront on 4.5 elegantly landscaped acres, the Ram’s Head Inn is just a short walk from the beach. In lieu of the summer circuit of parties in the Hamptons, Shelter Island provides an idyllic setting for some real rest and relaxation.

Guest Rooms

The Ram’s Head Inn’s is a rustic center-hall colonial with 17 charming and comfortable suites. Owner Aandrea Carter bought and refurbished the historic property a couple of years ago, taking it full circle: the inn was built and operated by a woman originally.

This isn’t the Four Seasons, but it isn’t meant to be. The atmosphere is quaint (in a good way), unpretentious, and low-key.

Sea-to-Table Dining

One of the highlights of the Ram’s Head Inn is its sea-to-table dining. On Thursday nights. several local oyster farmers sell their catch right off the boat. The inn has a produce and herb garden that’s overseen by a dedicated agricultural director, the wonderfully named Ariel Farmer. Guests can enjoy a meal on the patio or in the elegant dining room, which offers views for days of the surrounding landscape and water.

Weddings and Group Getaways

The Rams Head Inn is where to stay on Shelter Island if you’re looking to do a wedding or a family getaway. The inn has a range of elegant and versatile event spaces for events with up to 200 guests.

If you’re looking for a regional stay that offers a luxurious and quiet escape from city life, this is it. With its fine seafood dining, rustic clean beach, wellness experiences, and charming grounds, the Ram’s Head Inn brings it back to the basics of why the Hamptons is special.
