Celebrity Yachts

Michaela Atiae, Staff Writer

As we enter the last few weeks of August, we are in prime season for celebrity yachts. After all, nothing quite says summer like sailing the Mediterranean on your boat. Of course, with celebrity yachts, come celebrities, who are out in full force. These are some of the most notable celebrity yachts sailing the waters with their beautiful owners and guests this summer. And yes, size does matter.

The Celeb: Giorgio Armani

The Boat: MAIN

Size Does Matter: 213 ft

Giorgio Armani’s superyacht isn’t your standard boat. Somehow, the designer managed to commission a yacht that is equally flashy and unassuming. The main feature is its unconventional color. The $65 M yacht is a dark green bordering black. While out at sea, the boat camouflages, but docked, there’s no missing it amongst the traditional white. Armani was involved in all design choices, personally crafting the interiors, and we’d expect no less from the fashion mogul. Even at a spry 90 years old, an invitation on Armani’s boat is still one of the most coveted of celebrity yachts on the water.

The Celeb: Mark Zuckerberg

The Boat: Launchpad

Size Does Matter: 387 ft

Zuckerberg has been part of the celeb club for a long time, but he’s one of the few in the top 15 or so billionaires who didn’t have his own boat. That is, until now. The $300 million  superyacht Launchpad was a gift to himself for his 40th birthday. As no celebrity yacht worth it salt travels alone, we can’t forget the Facebook founder’s support yacht, Wingman. You know, just in case Launchpad gets lonely. Zuckerberg is putting Launchpad to good use too. One of his most recent excursions happened in Italian waters, which happens to be one of Zuckerberg’s faves for vacation.

The Celeb: Jeff Bezos

The Boat: Koru

Size Does Matter: 417 ft

By far, the most expensive of the yachts on this list is Jeff Bezos’ for a calm $500 million. Talk about extravagant; the boat is 230 ft high, a little over the average 20-story building, all dedicated to just 18 guests and 40 crew members. The support boat is a megayacht in itself, equipped with cars and a helicopter pad. The boat’s name Koru is Maori for new beginnings. However something tells us Bezos is already doing well for himself right where he is. This is currently one of the most coveted invitations of celebrity yachts out there. Just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who are guests on his boat this summer.

The Celeb: Paul Allen

The Boat: Octopus

Size Does Matter:  413 ft

The late Paul Allen, AKA Microsoft co-founder, is part of the OG of celebrity yachts. Paul Allen had one of the first celebrity yachts, Octopus. Octopus was outfitted with the best, from the Mercedes diesel engines to the glass-bottom pool. There’s even a 10-passenger submarine attached. Essentially, the boat was equipped with every feature to make it feel like you’re in the water without stepping off the boat. The $285 million vessel also had a music studio and wellness facilities. Traveling by land seems overrated when you’ve got a helicopter, submarine, and super yacht at your beck and call.  Alas that’s the life aboard celebrity yachts, and Paul Allen was at the forefront of the trend.
