A lot of you are back to the grind in 2021, which means back to that room still within shouting distance of your bedroom. We’re right there with you, and spend a lot of quality time in our home offices. As a result, we’ve decided to work on our office, with the guidance of interior designer Luis Hill. Our goal is to transform the space with what we already have laying around. So while it may be the same room, it has new inspiration. These are some simple tips to refresh your home office decor.
-
Flip the room around.
This idea is a Luis special, because it costs no money but can make maximum impact. You’re literally changing up the scenery by moving your desk to face another way, which can do a lot for the creative juices. This home office decor hack can transform your whole mindset.
-
Buy a new rug.
Right about now the stores are preparing for inventory. And some, like West Elm, are doing an extra 75% off clearance rugs, that are already 50% off. Given the pandemic and reduced foot traffic through stores in general, it’s an optimal time to pick up a rug. The right rug can completely transform your home office decor vibe.
-
Invest in a new office chair.
Besides your bed, you probably spend the second most time in your office chair, which warrants the investment, far beyond this COVID-era. And the workplace could be changed forever, so there may be more work from home days to permanently make their way into your schedule. Back support is important, so it’s more than just aesthetics. Though that’s also a bonus in re-making your office for this year.
-
If you’re challenged on space, make your office a multi-purpose room.
Like business in the front, party in the back, your office can transition from work space by day to TV/homework room/family den by evening. Consider adding a sectional couch to make this transition, coffee table with a chess set and your favorite family games, and an art television, that by day looks like a piece of artwork and by night can be used to watch your family-friendly Netflix shows.
-
Re-cover an existing chair.
As an office you likely have additional seating, and sprucing up an old chair with a new fabric, can help make your space seem brand new. You can play it safe with a neutral, or this is your chance to express yourself. Either way you go, choose something that makes you happy and inspires you.
-
Add a bar to your office.
Because why not? Not only will a bar immediately elevate the style of your room, but it’s functional for those Friday Happy Hours. Just remember, it’s always 5pm somewhere in the world. Check our video on how to style the best bar cart.
