We’re in a pretty frame of mind this week, so we’re passing on this simple idea for your weekend brunches. Because presentation is everything, this smoked salmon dip will be a favorite centerpiece to pair with your favorite bagels.
Smoked salmon and bagels have long been a brunch favorite, but turning that into a creamy dip takes things up a notch. The dip is rich from cream cheese, brightened by lemon, and balanced with the briny pop of capers and smoked salmon. Fresh dill adds herbaceous depth, while red onion brings in some sharpness.
Aside from how quick it is to make, there’s the balance of protein and fat, which keeps it satisfying without feeling overindulgent. The smoked salmon brings in healthy omega-3s, and the citrus and herbs keep the flavor light and fresh.
Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
4 oz smoked salmon, finely chopped
2 tbsp capers, drained
2 tbsp red onion, finely diced
1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
Zest of 1 lemon
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp olive oil
Directions
In a bowl, combine the cream cheese with lemon juice, zest, and olive oil. Stir until smooth and well blended. Using the back of a spoon, spread the cream cheese on the serving dish making a small petal-like shape.
Fold in the chopped smoked salmon, capers, red onion, and dill with the cream cheese on the plate. Top it with the remaining capers to give it the look of a flower.
Chill the dip for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to develop. Drizzle with olive oil before serving with toasted bagels, crackers, or sliced veggies.
