How To Stay Fit in The New Year — While Traveling: NYC Trainer Kenny Santucci gives his top tips for 2023

Fitness doesn’t have to be your Achilles heel; it can be downright fun when you have the right trainer. Enter Kenny Santucci, who’s one of the top guys to get your sweat on with in NYC. His mantra is “fitness is a religion, and the gym is your church.” Here are his tips for getting in shape in the New Year.

It’s that time of year — resolutions season. After holiday parties and elaborate dinners, when January 1 rolls around, lifestyle changes — especially diet and exercise — are top of mind for many. Keeping a solid routine can be tough on its own, and traveling can make things even more challenging. For advice, we tapped Kenny Santucci, a top fitness trainer in New York City and the founder of Strong New York, a health, wellness, and fitness community. His first tip? “Don’t attack it all at once,” Santucci says. “The biggest problem is people want to go from zero to a hundred.” To fuel a successful New Year’s resolution, read on for Santucci’s suggestions — and peek at his picks for the healthiest vacation destinations.

Hilary: What’s your best advice for individuals who’ve made resolutions to focus on fitness in the new year?

Kenny: Start with small changes, start with adding more positive things into your life rather than cutting everything out. Start with 2-3 days of exercise and gradually add on.

Hilary: How about healthy eating?

Kenny: Try changing one meal a day rather than overhauling your diet completely. You need to set yourself up for success and the easiest way to do it is to start small.

Hilary: What’s the easiest way to work out on vacation?

My favorite way to workout on vacation is to get outside and run and explore. You can see wherever you are vacationing in a new way. I always like to support local spots and try to find a local gym whenever I am traveling.

Hilary: What if you can’t find a gym or the weather isn’t right for an outdoor run?

Kenny: If you did want to bring equipment with you, a TRX, jump rope, and bands are very versatile and easy to pack. You can find some way to move wherever you go. Stop making excuses for why you can’t work out on vacation!

Hilary: What’s the best vacation spot for a healthy-ish getaway?

Kenny: I love a city or a getaway that has a healthy culture with a lot of gyms and healthy places to eat, like Nashville or Miami.

Hilary: What time do you suggest people should work out while traveling?

Kenny: Do it first thing in the morning so you get it out of the way. I guarantee you will feel better and still enjoy every minute of your trip.

Hilary: Thanks for starting us off on the right foot this 2023. Looking forward to catching up with you again soon.
