Like John Legend, sometimes you want to ride, ride, ride. Absent a vintage convertible and supermodel by your side, it doesn’t mean you don’t want to drive in style. Once known as Silvercar, the name finally matches the product. Just in time too for all the new hotels near NYC that are worthy of the drive. After all, you’ll want a luxury car rental to match the experience of a top luxury hotel for your weekend trip.
Overview
Anyone who has ever rented a car in NYC from the usual suspects – here’s looking at you Hertz, Dollar and Enterprise – knows that it’s an interesting exercise. First there’s the availability of cars that’s a challenge, but that seems insignificant compared to the quality and the cost. Just because you don’t own a car in NYC, doesn’t mean you don’t care what you rent. Secondly renting a car in NYC means flatlining your credit card, because the daily rate ends up multiples by the time you reach the checkout. So for example, a $100/day rental fee will generally get you a compact to mid-size car. But by the time all the taxes, fees and hidden costs are tallied up, plus insurance, you’re looking at least double.
Enter in Audi on Demand which was formerly Silvercar, and it’s like you’re not even in the same realm of car rental. When Silvercar first appeared on the scene around 2014, it was a pioneer in luxury car rentals. In lieu of a jalopy, that same $100/day base price will get you a Q7 SUV that fits 7 of your nearest and dearest. While this is a luxury car rental experience, it’s not priced like one. The final price too is right about $116/day. If you don’t have American Express Platinum to cover your insurance, then it’s another $15/day. So with Audi on Demand, you don’t feel like it’s a bait and switch. And you get to drive away in style in an impeccably kept Audi.
How it Works
This luxury car rental works off the technology of its predecessor company Silvercar, which is app-based. You can also initiate your rental through the Audi on Demand website, but to confirm you’ll need to download the app. Once your rental is confirmed on the app, then it’s as easy as can be. There are 47 locations throughout the U.S. Generally pickup locations are at Audi dealerships like in New Rochelle, but in NYC there are two additional spots in Columbus Circle and Brooklyn until September 12th. They will take a pause at these two locations until 2024, when we’ll announce the new locations. There’s no drama either; show up on time for your designated slot and the car is ready for you. So finally, there is a luxury car rental experience in New York that’s another reason to take a road trip.
