Where to Travel in September

We know, you were one of those kids who saved their candy until everyone else had eaten theirs. So now it’s September, and you have a stash of vacation time to head to Europe. Because you are in the know, that this is the best month to be in the Med, and taking in all the Parisian restaurants with the locals. That, and it’s like Europe is on sale compared to the coin it took to travel there this summer. So these are the places to be in September for your well-deserved vacay.

Hotel: Cali Mykonos

Destination: Mykonos, Greece

September might not be in “prime” season for a trip to Greece, but for those in the know- it’s better. Temperatures are highest in July and August, reaching the high 90s, but September brings a more manageable warmth. Your chance to swim in the Mediterranean is amplified by fewer crowds and waters that still preserve the summer heat. From late August into September is grape harvesting season; the harvesting process must happen quickly, making it a social, celebratory gathering for locals. If you love wine (don’t we all) you’ll be in heaven, hopping from vineyard to vineyard, trying the grapes that make the magic, and learning about production.

Hotel: Saint James Paris

Destination: Paris, France

Paris is where you should go in September has almost as much energy as New York. After the long European break, Paris comes alive in September. Whether you’re attending a ballet, or participating in European Heritage Days for free access to museums and monuments, you’ll be all brushed up on your French art history. Failed French in highschool? Now’s your chance to redeem yourself. Some of the buildings are not accessible to the public otherwise so bragging rights will be in order after your visit. Locals will also open the doors to their homes so that you can experience a rare look into Parisian life. Of course, there’s also Paris Fashion Week at the end of September, so mark your calendar.

Hotel: La Réserve Ramatuelle

Destination: St. Tropez, France

Saint Tropez is known for the mega yachts that come through each season. Their swan song is Yacht Week, which runs from September 28 to October 6th this year. The Voiles de Saint-Tropez is a regatta like no other. The St.Tropez harbor is already the place to see the boats dock nearby. During the regatta, around 250 boats – some hundreds of years old and others with cutting-edge features congregate in the harbor. You can also expect parties, parades, and live music during the event. If you’re single, who says dating apps are the only place to meet your match? Just compliment a sailor on the size of their boat instead.

Hotel: Hotel Dubrovnik Palace

Destination: Croatia

Istria in Croatia is where you should be this September if fresh truffles and olive oil sound good to you. After a truffle hunt, you can bag some of these ingredients and impress your friends back home the next time you make pasta. While you should always enjoy indulgences like olive oil and truffles guilt-free, exercise creates balance. Luckily, Croatia is covered in natural parks with foliage beginning to change color. There’s even a walking festival in Lika-Senj County and, for the more athletic of the lot, the Ston Wall Marathon. Did we mention that these are the longest fortified walls in Europe? Again, bragging rights will be unparalleled.

Hotel: One&Only Portonovi

Destination: Montenegro

Montenegro is one of those places that is completely packed in the summer. September brings the opportunity to see all the landmarks without pushing through a sweaty crowd for your selfie. There are Farmers Markets, like the Market in Porto Montenegro, and an international fishermen competition at the Bay of Kotor. In the same vein, the Thousand Islands Race is an opportunity to win a world sailing speed record over a 300-mile expedition—AKA the opportunity of a lifetime.
