The Property: Necker Island
Who:
When someone has crossed oceans in a hot-air balloon (and especially if this barely scratches the surface of what they have achieved), you can safely say they know a thing or two about adventuring. But Richard Branson also happens to be a billionaire entrepreneur, founder of the Virgin Group, proud owner of Necker Island – a 74-acre island in the British Virgin Islands.
Why:
Known for being a playground for the stars and all conceivable famous folk, Richard Branson’s privately-owned Caribbean palace happens to be rentable, with a minimum five-night stay. This might make the “why” section of this page redundant. But we’ll give it a try anyway.
The island is rentable in its entirety, but individual rooms are also available. In total, Necker Island can accommodate up to 48 guests, with additional room for 6 children.
The resort is a proud member of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers to make a lasting impact in the communities to which they travel. The island also comes equipped with four restaurants (one of which is a romantic, floating sushi bar), interactions with local wildlife (lemurs, flamingos, scarlet ibis, giant tortoises, and iguanas), many-a spa treatments, on-the-water and underwater adventures, yoga, tennis, fitness classes, and beach Olympics. Then again, if you’re renting an actual island, it’s really all up to you.
If there’s any celebrity yardstick against which we can safely measure both luxury and adventure, it’s Richard Branson.
