Taylor Swift in Vienna

Taylor Swift

We, like the 150,000+ ticket holders over the three scheduled evenings, were looking forward to seeing Taylor Swift in Vienna. Vienna is one of the most royal – or rather, in its case – imperial cities in the world. Taylor is a queen so she would have fit right in. But alas due to the exact opposite sentiments of her concerts, we will not see Taylor Swift in Vienna this August 8-10.

So, What Happened to the Taylor Swift Concert in Vienna?

What happened to Taylor Swift’s scheduled concerts in Vienna is actually serious business. Intelligence reports identified a verified planned terrorist attack by a 19-year-old Austrian citizen and at least one other individual. While not believed to be directed by ISIS, those involved had affiliated with the terrorist group. The result is that the sold-out concerts for all three evenings at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna have been canceled. If there’s one thing that Taylor has proven throughout her performances is her fans come first. That especially includes their health and safety, so don’t plan to see Taylor Swift in Vienna this weekend. All three dates of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna have been canceled. Ticket holders will receive a refund within ten days.

All is Not Lost

We know a lot of people planned their European vacations around Taylor’s concerts. If you happen to be in Vienna, the good news is that all is not lost. Although you will not see Taylor Swift in Vienna this summer, Vienna is a destination in itself. From the opera, museums, palaces, Spanish Riding School, cafes, and restaurants, these are just a few of the sights to see if you’re in town.

Favorite Viennese Cafes

Café Demel

If you need a caffeine pick me up after exploring a museum, Demel is in the perfect location on Kohlmarkt, just a few steps from The Hofburg Museum. It’s popular amongst tourists so expect a line.  Kohlmarkt 14, 1010. Vienna, Austria

Café Sacher

One of the other well-known chocolatiers (some may call it a rival to Café Demel) is Café Sacher. It has a more intimate cozy feel to it vs. Sacher with various smaller parlor-like rooms. Philharmonikerstraße 4, 1010 Vienna, Austria.

Café Drechsler

For another famous, well-respected café check out Café Drechsler.  Linke Wienzeile 22, 1060. Vienna, Austria.

Café Sperl

Located a few blocks away from Café Dreschsler is this historic café. It’s been around since 1880 and is well known for the artists, singers, and musicians who visit and perform here.  Gumpendorfer Straße 11 1060. Vienna, Austria.

Café Museum

Café Museum, known for its minimalist architecture by architect Adolf Loos, was built in 1899.  Although it’s been around 125 years or so, the feel is modern versus classic Viennese. Operngasse 7, 1010. Vienna, Austria.

Sights to See

Albertina Museum

The Albertina is a manageable museum with 4-5 exhibits and is in a beautiful building. The classic building is as worthy as the art itself.

Address: Augustinerstraße 1  1010. Vienna-Innere Stadt, Austria.

Hofburg Museum

This is a must see especially for women interested in fashion. There’s an interesting focus on the Austrian royalty and the history of Princess Catherine.

State Opera House

Vienna is known for their Opera. Therefore, to miss the Opera House and a performance, is like missing the soul of the city itself. Even if you don’t like opera, it’s worth a performance in Vienna.

Address: Opernring 2. Vienna, Austria

Naschmarkt

For a change in scenery, the Nashmarkt is essential for shopping and grabbing a bite. The Nashmarkt has become quite posh since its humble beginnings. Now there are various shops, gourmet food counters, and even wine bars to visit.

Address: Naschmarkt, 1060. Vienna, Austria

Spanish Riding School

Address: Michaelerplatz 1, 1010 Wien, Austria

Stroll thru Stadtpark

After browsing Naschmarkt, walking through Stadtpark is a lovely way to see the city. You can head back to the museum district for additional sightseeing around the Ring.
