Fashion Designer: LVMH
Restaurant: Chez L’Ami Louis
Location: Paris
If you already think Chez L’Ami Louis has a starlit reputation, we’re willing to bet LVMH’s recent ownership won’t make snagging a reservation any easier. The twelve tables, plus its A-list crowd, make it a spot hard to come by. The type of fame doesn’t matter; the Parisian bistro attracts politicians like Bill Clinton and artists like Rosalia and Johnny Depp.
What makes it so enticing? First, it’s a classic, founded a century ago with family roots. Then there’s the produce. Ingredients come from small breeders and market gardeners through the generations, ensuring consistency. Most notable on the menu is the whole roasted chicken, accompanied by a heaping helping of shoestring fries, the snails, and the Foie gras (proof that upscale does not always equal toddler-sized portions). Now, it’s up to you to decide if the old-school French charm justifies a $100+ chicken.
The Fashion Designer: Ralph Lauren
Restaurant: The Polo Bar
Location: New York City
The Polo Bar is a city classic with all of Ralph Lauren’s favorite American cuisine fixings. Lauren’s concept recreates the large meal gatherings that the designer grew up cherishing. And in Ralph Lauren spirit, you’ll feel like you’ve entered the dining room of an equestrian. Framed horse illustrations, brown leather chairs, and wood paneling have a sophisticated but cozy appeal. After opening up two successful restaurants in Chicago and Paris, Lauren took a shot at arguably the toughest urban landscape in 2015.
His efforts proved worthy, and now, getting a reservation is no easy feat. If you do score a seat, they are known for a few menu items—the corn beef sandwich, the Reuben, pigs in blanket, and the burger. Be sure to dress elegantly when you arrive, because the waitstaff dresses to impress in leather wingtips and custom Ralph Lauren; they’ll turn you away if you miss the memo.
Fashion Designer: Armani
Restaurant: Armani Ristorante e Caffè
Location: Worldwide
Armani’s restaurants and cafes stand the test of time. The Armani world of food & beverage launched in Paris in 1998, and only grew since. There isn’t a small scattering, rather a growing empire of more than 20 restaurants worldwide. Giorgio Armani applied his love of style to culinary practice and expanded into a lifestyle brand. Food is both an art and a quintessential part of daily living, so naturally, Armani had to include good food and drink for stylish people.
Each café and restaurant is Italian-inspired, but unique. So you can keep coming back and expect the iconic coffees and options that aren’t in your usual rotation. For instance, in Emporio Armani Caffè and Ristorante Dubai, you can order a golden cappuccino with a 23- Karat Gold Flake topping. The Paris restaurant has a Michelin star and a Tagliatelle Cacio e Pepe, while the Osaka location has a monthly parfait and Rose and Lotus Black Tea. No matter what location you find yourself in, you know it’s all done in good taste.
Fashion Designer: Dior
Restaurant: Monsieur Dior
Location: Paris
In the heart of the flagship Dior boutique is Monsieur Dior. French Chef Jean Imbert and Designer Peter Marino dedicate the space to the French art of living. Menu items are inspired by the designers’ past collections, bringing art to the table. Your favorite classic French dishes are simplistic, but elegant. For instance, if you think you’re just ordering a casual egg dish, think again, because the Christian Dior egg is soft-boiled and placed over a helping of caviar. The interiors of the fine dining establishments are equally elegant and nostalgic. A Claudia Wieser mirror made of thousands of square panels spreads across the wall like a historical mural. The pictorial curation of Guy Limone features photos from the Dior archives within the panels. And if the restaurant visit hasn’t fully satiated your appetite, next door, La Pâtisserie Dior can be your excuse for a second dessert.
Fashion Designer: Gucci
Restaurant: Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura
Location: Worldwide
We can’t make this list without Gucci Osteria. Travel is in its philosophy. Fitting, isn’t it? Italian culture and prime ingredients are the basis of the first-ever Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura. But with multiple locations in influential cities worldwide, cultural diversity is celebrated in the dishes. For example, in Tokyo, a Parmigiana incorporates chilies and fermented eggplant broth reminiscent of Ramen ingredients.
The brand’s vision is to look forward to the future, whether continuing culinary discoveries through travel or using bright, fresh colors in their design. The Italians are unafraid of a bold and playful display, exhibited in Florence’s green walls and pink plates; or the Beverly Hills location’s red velvets and marble mosaics. It’s no wonder they are Michelin-starred; innovation, high-quality ingredients, and impactful design are at the forefront of every location.
