5 Top Yoga Retreats

Eliya Brennan, writer

If you look at the habits of those who age well, you start to see some patterns. Most don’t smoke and take it easy on the late-night benders. And while it’s not statistically proven, we bet way more than half of those people practice yoga. After all, a little om does wonders for the stress. Here are yoga retreats to start your year off right.

1. Yoga for Bad People

Yoga for Bad People mixes Yoga with fun activities for regular people! Spend seven nights this February in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay.  On this Yoga retreat, you’ll start and finish your day with guided meditations. You can enjoy two relaxing and rejuvenating yoga classes every day.  Also, you’ll get to stay in luxury hotel rooms that come with ensuite beach bungalows.

2. Enchantment Resort, Sedona

Start the New Year with a secluded outdoor experience. This Arizona Yoga retreat will help you to get back in touch with the earth. Their spa suites offer a wellness journey curated by Mii amo therapists. The resort is perched on Boynton Canyon, making for idyllic scenery. It also has a new Trail House, which is the go-to center for all outdoor adventures.  The Trail House is where you’ll be set up with everything you need to go mountain biking or hike the red rocks.

3. Ananda in the Himalayas

This Yoga retreat is one to put on layaway until India fully re-opens.  We’re putting it on the list anyway because it’s seriously incredible.  Ananda takes a holistic approach to healing.  They are experts at creating a balance between mind, body, and soul. Ananda is situated in the Himalayas and sits in-between two mythical cities.  It also overlooks rivers and forests for maximum chakra alignment. Here’s to looking ahead to the 2023 new year.

4. Sanara in Tulum

What better way to kick off the new year than barefoot in the Caribbean? Sanara offers a wellness center and a separate Yoga studio on the beach.  Their Nourish & Heal program is the Yoga retreat tailored to you. It is curated to attain a balance between nutrition, self-care, movement, and reflection. Enjoy meals at Real Coconut, the on-premise conscious kitchen. It is plant-focused as well as gluten and dairy-free.

5. Esalen Institute

This one is hardcore.  This holistic Yoga retreat is a not-for-profit in California.  Tuition to the Institute covers food, lodging, and access to campus activities and locations.  Guests can use the Meditation Hut and Art Barn.  There is no internet or cell phone service at the Esalen Institute. If you’re looking to start the new year with a reset button, this is the destination for you.
