Regardless of where you’re traveling to this summer, a chic pair of sunglasses is inevitably an item you’re going to pack. And this year, the legendary eyewear designer for the stars, Christian Roth, has upped everyone’s sunglasses game by reissuing the iconic 90s sunglass frames made famous by Kate Moss at the height of her career. In 1992, when Moss was just 17, fashion photographer Stephanie Pfriender Stylander shot the model wearing the Series-4001 frame for Harper’s Bazaar Uomo. Both the images and the sunglasses have since become iconic.
Fast forward to present day, and Pfriender Stylander recently used one of the images from that shoot for the cover of her book, The Untamed Eye. Inspired by the book cover and a new demand for the specs, Roth teamed up with Stylander to reissue the frames for 2019.
In a statement to the CFDA, Roth said, “Stephanie’s photographs are nearly three decades old, but the ideas and emotions they capture — young love, rebellion, curiosity — are timeless. After speaking about her work and its significance to our label’s heritage, it was clear that the time had arrived to share a piece of our history with a new generation.”
The sunglasses launch this month at select retail locations.
