The Upper East Side just hasn’t been the same since the iconic Surrey Hotel closed its doors. But what was old is going to be new again, and all indications are that it will be pretty darned cool. It’s hard not to be when Casa Tua is in residence.
The Surrey to Return to the Upper East Side
We know that many of you were heartbroken when The Surrey Hotel closed its doors in the midst of the global pandemic. Let us be the bearer of good news: Corinthia Hotels and the Reuben Brothers will be reopening the hotel after a massive renovation. The word on the street is that The Surrey will finally be back this summer.
Design
The hotel has been around since 1926 and saw several high-profile guests like JFK and Bette Davis. So by the time it closed its doors, it did need to refurbish. But as they say, location is everything, so it was well worthwhile to update the 70 guest rooms, 30 suites and 14 residences. Baths were give extra TLC to feel like a luxury spa. In the updated rendition of The Surrey, 4 of the 30 suites are Signature Suites with Central Park’s bridges as the theme.
Wellness Center
As part of The Corinthia group, The Surrey has had a full revamp on its spa program. The hotel’s “World of Wellness” will include two spa treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room, relaxation area, and a fitness center. Of course there will be a full menu of spa treatments like facials and massages. The hotel’s gym was designed by AMP and also includes all the equipment that a fitness junkie could ever need.
Casa Tua
Maybe the most anticipated news of the reopening of The Surrey is the dining and access to the coveted private rooftop. Every 5-star hotel needs a good anchor restaurant for its guests. Daniel Boulud moved onto other pastures, but in his place will be Casa Tua. Casa Tua’s founders, Miky Grendene and Leticia Herrera-Grendene established their restaurant in Miami, Aspen, Paris, and now, New York City. Now you’ll have a chance to experience their Italian cuisine and hospitality. Although the New York location’s official menu has yet to be announced, you can expect traditional Italian pastas and other staples on the menu. Word is that the rooftop will remain an exclusive members area, so apply now.
