A Little History

High Hampton’s old-world charm is genuine. Almost a century old, the grand resort got on the National Registry of Historic Places by the turn of the century. In 2020 and 2021, the owners restored High Hampton to its original glory. They retained the gable-roofed main lodge with its refined chestnut bark siding, along with a massive stone fireplace and rich wood paneling.

Rooms

Guests can choose from 59 different accommodations, including eight private cottages with as many as four bedrooms each. Despite the vintage vibe, High Hampton is thoroughly modern in every way that matters. The 1,400-acre resort includes a Tom-Fazio-designed 18-hole golf course and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The latter is outfitted with Technogym workout equipment and Peloton bikes. Also, guests have exclusive access to the large pool and the lake.

Food and Wine

No luxury resort in North Carolina would be complete without a choice of outstanding dining options. So to hedge their bets, High Hampton has seven restaurants that focus on farm-to-table, locally-sourced ingredients. Restaurants serve everything from a hearty steak to delicate seafood dishes, The chefs are regulars on NBC’s Today show, to show off their inventive creations.

Southern Hospitality

Perhaps the true essence of High Hampton as a luxury hotel in North Carolina is something not so palpable: its sense of community. From the welcoming staff to the friendly fellow guests, there’s a sense of warmth and camaraderie. There’s something a bit old-fashioned and throw-back about the High Hampton experience. As Oscar Wilde most famously said: “I have the simplest tastes; I’m always satisfied with the best.” At High Hampton, this is where you sip a cocktail, like a Coconut Margarita or a Red Clay Hot Sauce Bloody Mary, on the lodge’s famous wraparound porch. All while watching the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sometimes simple is the best.
