Top US Restaurants in Department Stores

tiffany's department store restaurants

For those notorious for shopping until dropping, it’s nice to keep your dinner plans nearby.  And what’s more convenient than the restaurant already in the store?  Retail therapy is way more fun when you can get a quality meal afterward- or before, depending on your style. But we’re not talking about mall food courts or your run-of-the-mill chain pit stops.  For those looking for a meal as high-quality as that new outfit, here are the best restaurants in department stores.

L’Avenue at Saks, NYC

For haute French cuisine you can count on after traipsing floor after floor of Saks’ endless inventory, L’Avenue is one of the best restaurants in department stores. Bringing a traditionally Parisian flair to the hustle of fifth avenue, you can get your hands on all the cuisine classics like foie gras and filet mignon.  The menu also features a Pan-Asian flair with items like shrimp dim sum and miso salmon. Reservations are recommended, so you might have to put a time-limit on your spring season haul.

The Blue Box Cafe at Tiffany’s, NYC

At the risk of sounding cliche, breakfast at Tiffany’s is the quintessential best restaurants in department stores vibe.  In signature blue, this quaint and classic eatery is more than just a meal, it’s an experience. Unfortunately, it’s an experience you’ll have to wait for a little bit longer to indulge in.  Tiffany’s flagship is amid a transformation and is set to reopen at some point this year, though a specific date is not yet posted.  In Tiffany’s style, Blue Box is all about luxury and special touches: bring on the caviar and champagne.

The Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus, Dallas

This one is as classic as restaurants in department stores can get.  Dating back to its inception in 1957, The Zodiac Room has become something of a staple.  The menu consists of traditional American fare, but the must-try item is their popovers with strawberry butter.  For those in the area, they will now deliver them right to your door.  With small bites, soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees, this spot is your go-to for business lunches.  Or, allow them to host a private luncheon for a special occasion.

Gucci Osteria, Beverly Hills

When Gucci has an Italian restaurant on the premises, we know it’s going to be luxurious.   And on Rodeo, no less. Based on the Florentine flagship, Gucci Osteria intends to embody House of Gucci’s values, but instead of wearing these items, you’ll eat them instead. Chef Mattia Agazzi has brought his expertise from his Italian home into Gucci Osteria’s kitchen, where he has introduced an innovative 8-course menu for dinner. Some of the highlights include Sgroppino with Yuzu and Coconut, as well as grilled artichokes with quail egg.

BG at Bergdorf Goodman, New York

Located on the seventh floor of the flagship, this is one of the more iconic restaurants in department stores.  The atmosphere pairs stunning views of central park with a quaint meeting spot ideal for cocktails or afternoon tea after a day of shopping. Or, a dinner reservation to take in the city lights. They serve American cuisine with a light French influence. As far as famous menu items go, at the top of the list is the Gotham Salad, which is a hearty take on the classic cobb salad.
