Singing Along to Hall & Oats and Happy Birthday to Us

We write about what we love at Galavante. All our editorial is carefully curated by the Galavante team. When you purchase through a link on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works.

October in New York

The theme for this month at Galavante is all about fall. It’s no coincidence that this is my favorite time of year in New York. I live in the city for so many reasons, from the hard-charge energy of working here to the dynamic restaurant landscape to the international culture. But fall – with the changing of the leaves in Central Park, slipping on my boots and cozy sweaters, and taking in the crisp air for the first time – remains my favorite.

And it seems that I am not alone. New Yorkers are re-inspired by fall, and we’re perfectly situated to take in the best it has to offer. This month, we’re featuring the best fall foliage on the East Coast. Admittedly, I used to think that these trips were more for our parents, but as my head hits the pillow before midnight during the week and I find myself singing along non-ironically to Hall & Oats, it seems like that generation was onto something.

With places like Glenmere in Chester, New York, it’s enough to inspire a working jetsetter like myself to park my passport for awhile. I had no idea that I could experience Italy only an hour away, and with Glenmere’s new chef, Geoffroy Deconinck, French cuisine worthy of any fine restaurant in Paris. After all, there’s a reason why Daniel Boulud got married at Glenmere, with best man Thomas Keller and groomsman Eric Ripert.

With the Topping Rose brioche donut, which I’ve named the brionut (move over, cronut), the White Barn Inn in Maine’s culinary feats worth driving all night for, and the chance to buy my groceries at Blue Hill at Stone Barns Farm Market, I challenge anyone to miss one moment of what’s turning out to be a perfect October in New York.

October is always a nostalgic time for us at Galavante, as it marks three years since we launched our modest website. While we have a lot more to accomplish, and I doubt I’ll ever be satisfied in my goal to provide you with the best experiences in travel, we’ve come a long way. With our team of 32 strong, our membership growing in leaps and bounds, and new initiatives on the horizon, the future is bright. Happy Birthday to us, and thank you for being a part of it.

All the best,

Away for the Holidays

Being home for the holidays is lovely, of course: the familiar aromas, the cozy routines, the comfort of tradition. But being away? Now that’s where it can get interesting. Because…
